Okay, so today was my first day of school (since vacation) and since I had my nose pierced. Nobody at my school had seen it, and I had never mentioned it before. I didn't really expect too much of a reaction, just maybe a few, Did It Hurt?, and a couple stares. But it wasn't anything like that.

When I walked into school and down the hallway, I seriously saw everybody stop and stare. (THEY LITERALLY STOPPED)And I caught a few people with their mouths wiiiddeee open? At the time, I was walking with my friend, and she even commented on how much people were staring, so it WASN'T just me! Later, throughout the day, I got a lot of compliments on it from the guys, and a few girls who I was 'friends' with. But everybody else, (especially the girls) were talking behind my back, saying, "Oh my god! Did you see Shelbie's piercing!? Its so GROSS!" but of course, it always gets back to me, so I don't know why they bother. I didn't expect this, and I thought the kids in my school would actually be okay with it, seeing as there's atleast 5 people in the highschool with their nose pierced (and they don't say that their's is gross.) So I'm kind of angry, but then I think about how I got this for ME, not for THEM, so then I'm pretty much like, whatever, think what you want. But it still gets to me in a way. I just don't get it. Maybe it's because it's a loop instead of a diamond?

No worries. I was called a freak whilst in law school because my piercings were just too much for some people I guess.

As long as you are happy with them, nothing else matters. And there are those of us that find extreme beauty in the metal adoring your face.

you have to decide for yourself what you want. If you want to fit in and be accepted, then you dress and act like everyone else. If you want to be strong and individual, and express yourself in a way not many other people can understand, leave it in.

I suspect I know which one it is though.

that was like me when i got my eyebrow pierced, i was (and still am) the ONLY person in my school of 600 pupils with a facial piercing!
this had made me somewhat "famous" and im known as "the boy with the eyebrow!". i also got pierced over a holiday, well the summer holidays, and when i came back i was stared at so much! people talked to me just to look at my eyebrow. it wasnt even noticable, i had a retainer in it! i was called a goth once or twice, i didnt have any other piercings at the time, i didnt wear black, i listened to dance music only and none of my friends were goths! it was sooo stupid.
anyway, after about a week i made way more friends because it and now im one of the most popular people in my year, just because i have an eyebrow piercing!
i dont know what they're gonna say when i go back after this holiday since i have gotten a tragus piercing and stretched my lobe to 5mm!!

Really, if you have a ring instead of a stud, you're probably right in guessing that as the reason for so many stares...

If it bothers you too much, get it changed to a stud and see what happens. I haven't seen close pics of you - just your avatar, but I think it'd look really cute on you.

One thing I learned about life is that real life and school are two seperate worlds. Schools gave me a hard time and really, it was all one big emotional rollercoaster, whereas real life poeple are much more accepting and everything just sort of fans out...

I guess I'm trying to say that you'll be living your life with yourself forever whereas the people stopping, staring and making rude remarks will probably end up somewhere totally different in life...or right by your side.

A friend of mine was sort a "preppy-looking" brigade girl in high school - now she has WAY more tattoos that me, a septum,, labret, tongue and who-knows-what-else and is dating a heavily modded piercer.

I'm ranting... I wouldn't take it out for other poeple, but I understand where you're coming from. Things like that made me wear my septum up a lot when I had it. If it makes you self-concious, then maybe try just something that still lets you be you and keeps people from staring if it bothers you - like try a stud if you think it's because of the ring...

Just ignore them and be confident with your piercing. If you like it, who cares what they think. A lot of people I know think it's "gross" when I wear a CBR in my nose instead of a stud, but they can suck my nonexistant balls. If you're confident and don't give a **** what they think, they can't say anything. I've noticed that ever since I've developed that attitude, people have been MUCH more accepting. It's all in the vibe you give off... People detect it somehow.

The hell with what everyone else thinks. If you like it then that's all that matters.

You can change it to a stud if you want to please the crowds but now that they've seen the ring once they'll remember it. Personally I think the ring looks better on you than a stud would so as everybody else is saying **** them. If you think it looks good that's all that matters. Although I feel bad for you. All the attention + your SAD must've been hell. An like Garnet said, people treat you how you treat yourself. If you act like your the **** (without being an ass about it) then other people will act like your the ****! YOU CAN DO IT!! Lol Rob Snyder I think it is. I say **** them and keep the ring as well. You will never be happy if you walk around trying to please other people.. I can understand that you might feel uncomfortable though.. If you like the ring, keep it and be proud of it...

People are going to be people anyway, so you might as well do the things that make you happy..
