I have heard how everyone worships sea salt soaks, and I have to admit, I think they've done me a lot of good as well (my piercer never said anything about them...wash twice a day, that's all). I wanted to know if there were any adverse effects of the soaks. Can you do them too often? For too long? Thanks for any info.

I heard it's not a good idea to do them too often. But I would wait for John or someone else to reply on that.

I *think* that the worst possible thing that could happen is if you use too much salt (can burn your piercing) or if you use the wrong kind. Also, it might make it a little dry.

Thanks. I actually use a little less than 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and I only use sea salt. I didn't think that there was really anything bad that could happen. My navel seems to be healing just fine, but then again, I have nothing to compare it to, so I just wanted to be sure.

Soaking too long or too often can damage the skin. You know how you "prune" up after a long bath? You DON'T want that to happen to your piercing.

If you need to do more soaks per day, make them shorter soaks. If just one or two perday, then 5-10 minutes each is fine.
