What is spywear? I think my husband knows, as he switched us to kazaalite months ago, but, I don't have a clue what it is? Where can I get this Adwear thingy???????

Oh, and currently, we are sharing thousands of files... Should I be worried???

spywear is stuff that runs in the background of other programs such as kazaa and takes a look at your computer, finds out stuff about you ..then you get spam emails that are somewhat customised to you by what it found out..there is more to it but thats part of it..

i have tonnes of songs and stuff but i dont share..its not that im greedy lol, my dad doesnt want me using kazaa but he lets me as long as i dont share becuase that can give others a doorway into your computer.

Yeah the makers of Kazaa had a deal with some spyware software people, so they made Kazaa so that if the spyware was disabled Kazaa won't work, so for Kazaalite what they did, was include the spyware software, but hack it so it no longer sends the data back to whereever. Therefore Ad-aware still sees the spyware software, but can not tell it is the disabled version.

i think kazaa sucks personally, haven't used it for months.

i like kazaa lite best. i share a ton of files. they can sue me all they want, cuz most of the sh*t i share is pics ive made(icons, avatar like stuff, backgrounds,etc) and most of the music i share i have stolen from my brothers cds. so i aint worried about it.

personally if i was in a band or whatever, i wouldnt give a f*ck who stole my music. as long as its getting out there.

as far as actually prosecuting people-- yup, they do; there was a guy at my college recently hit with a huge seven-figure lawsuit. the people who run the college servers have also shut lots of people here down for sharing too much.

at any rate, spyware aside, i think the way they catch people is by making queries and seeing who pops up as having that particular song. so what i do is, i move all my mp3's to a non-shared folder; that way it still registers like i'm sharing, but i don't have anything to share. and when i get done with a session, i move all my recently dl-ed stuff to the non-shared folders.

but then, i don't do it often, so it's feasible. i have maybe 300 mp3's total, and most of them I ripped from my own cd collection anyway. :shrug:

yep..its moslty the big artists that are mainstream that complain about it..in the punk world most bands actually publish songs or whole albums to download off of their site. this esp helps the new bands get heard, so they dont mind at all..they arent really in it for the money, but for the music and the $ is a bonus..i realize that for some it is their job and they have the right to no want their music being shared.
