my opinions stick very closely to Hugh the Hand's...mostly because I'd never seriously hit a man, but if someone was going nuts on you, hold them down. You're bigger, stronger, badder anyway, right??? I did this several times with one of my ex people. It's usually the best way to go. Not as much temper, gives you a moment to breathe, and chill out.

Most of you guys (as in people) that have said you shouldn't hit girls say it's because they're smaller, weaker, etc. Well what if a little skinny guy (as in boy/man) hit you? Would that make it different? Would you hit him back just because he has a penis? Or what if a big girl hit you? If she was bigger than you, is it ok to hit her then?

And that goes for girls too...if a little skinny guy hit you, would you not hit him back because he's smaller or would that not matter?

Ya know.. I post this without reading the entire thread, but after reading the first page.

First and foremost, I notice the language and all the edits SD has done. GEEZ folks, can we not be CIVIL enough to follow the RULES?

Now, back to the topic at hand.. hitting a girl.

1) I've NEVER done it, nor have I ever hadthe desire or "motivation" to do it.

2) She'd have to be hurting me pretty damned bad for me to fight back. A Man, generally, can defend himself without PUNCHING a woman in the face, or elsewhere.

As I say this, here's what I'm thinking. I'm divorced, and while married, almost NEVER argued, fought, disagreed, etc. Hindsight, we probly SHOULD HAVE.. lol, but anyway, I'll say this. She could have shot me and I don't think I could have hit her!

Now, on to how I feel on the subject as a whole. If a lady comes up to me in a parking lot, out of the clear blue and punches me in the face, in my mind, she ceases to be a "lady".. I'll knock the **** out of her. Now, is that right.. darned right it is... Now, I'm no man if I just go and start punching ANYONE.. female or not.. but in self defense... sure.

I know circumstances exist beyond the above illustration.. that's more balck and white than life is at almost any time! However, a "domestic disturbance"... in my opinion, the first on to raise their hand is the one at fault. I've had arguments with girlfriends before, but not ONCE have one of them hit me, nor have I hit them. But as I read some posts here, some of you can't even control your language, how do you expect me to beleive you can control your temper?

Anyway, as usual, just my 2 cents. And my short answer is this.. I'd never hit a LADY... the moment she raises her hand to me, the rules change. I'd NEVER strike ANYONE first... physical violence does NO GOOD in the end. All it proves is that you can stoop to the level of someone who can't use their mind to solve a problem.. but rather has to prove his manliness... when in reality if you have to rely on your muscles to solve the problem, you're not much of a man in the first place!

Agreed. The "average" man is going to be stronger and larger than the "average" woman. If my 5'2 wimpy sister hit her boyfriend and his 6'0 250 lbs frame hit back, he is a loser. Plain and simple, a loser. It isn't like he can't defend himself with out hitting back or hurting her, so hitting back would be out of anger, and the fact that he is much larger would make him a loser, IMO.
When I was pregnant my first time, I didnt know I was pregnant till about 8 weeks. I was so crazy, and I had no idea why. I just lost it over everything. A good friend commited suicide a week before I took my pregnancy test. I wanted to die for two weeks, and I was so miserable. My hubby and I had a fight, and I lost it, just lost it. I slugged him right in the gut, with all my might. If he had hit me back? I would have lost repsect for him, I mean, I was like 110 lbs and all crazy eyed. He knew I wasnt myself (even though we had no idea why just yet)so he just ran out and left for an hour until I calmed down. I felt so so bad. I kissed his ass for weeks after that. Sorry if I sound so unfeminist, but if he had hit me back, I would have left, there would have been no excuse for it. Boy he was relieved to find out that I was pregnant, and that all the women in my family go berzerk the first couple of months of being preggers.

On the other hand, if Mohammad Ali's daughter starts hitting Emanuel Lewis from Webster, he ought to fight back! How cool would that be to se his lil butt kick Chynas!

Women should not hit men, it is wrong. Men should not hit back (unless you are webster and really fear for your life!).

Whats funny, is that some people who oppose the death sentance (eye for an eye is wrong, hypocritical) but think it is A-Ok to hit a woman who hits you.... Hmmm...

Well this subject I am all too familiar with. Ok anyways I met a guy fell in love..had a child with him and everything fell apart. I know what I did was wrong to hurt him, but it also hurt my child. I was being selfish and only thinking about myself..and just could not get over everything that happened in the past. So one night he came over harrassing me to get me to let him take our son. I repeatedly told him no, with good reason to (he said if he ever got him, I would never see him again). Anyhow he started getting really angry and shoved me a few times..shoved me so hard I flew into the wall across the room. I'm not a big girl only 5'3" 115 lbs and hes 6'1" and like 200lbs..it doesn't take a whole lot from someone that big. Anyhow I became so pissed I started to cry and was punching him in the chest and kept telling him to leave. He just wouldn't listen. Ok so another thing...do you think my punches would really hurt? Hmm riiiight. So finally I suppose he got so mad at me, all of the sudden I was laying on the ground in a puddle of my own blood. My mom who was inside taking care of my son...finally chased him away (after he had tried to take a swing at her too). Soon after the cops were there -the neighbors called before we had the chance-. I crawled into the bathroom to spit the blood outta my mouth and try to clean up a bit...I looked in the mirror and discovered I had one of the largest holes in my face ever. The force of his punch made my teeth go right through my face. So then I was told by the paramedics I would have to go to the ER and get about 20 stitches...Yay!! While I was there the cops were out looking for my ex...finally I guess he turned himself into the cops after sitting in a parking lot crying to himself for how sorry he was...uhhh riiiight. He spent the night in jail...got beat up by some black fellows and could not have any contact with me. He is now in anger management classes for like a year..and can never go hunting..because of guns..he got charged with felony battery...nice huh? So yeah it's one thing to hit someone back if they hit you...but come on now..think about if it really hurt you and then how you should react. ::sighs:: blah I just don't know.

Yeah, I know, I have too much to say but say very little... Thats me.
However I did forget one thing. Tjz, I feel for you. IMO, in your personal case you are not a loser. If a crazy lady is harming your child (or any child or helpless person for that matter)you must do what has to be done to stop it. When whats is done is done, she has already hurt the child, then there is no reason to hit her. But hey, I would, not cause it makes sense, but because protecting our young is the strongest instinct most of us have.
I also agree with michelle, violence with violence makes no sense. Fight fire with fire and everything just gets burnt to a crisp. Of couse, we are talking about relationships, not WWII, tjz .
But I cant say that if I were harming and abusing my kids that a man who would hit me would be a loser. Just human. The logical thing to do, is call the police the first time she harmed the baby, and never let her near it again. In real life, we all have emotions and reflexes. What Tj did is not right, but I doubt any good parent would have done much different.
