I'm new to this forum, Recently turned 18 and have been checking out various piercings for a while now. Ive decided I'd like to get a lower navel surface piercing. A hoirzontal bar about an inch below my navel, probably about 2-3cm long.

What do you all think of this as a first piercing, and as a piercing on a guy?

Welcome to tribe smile

I think that a piercing would more then likely quickly reject under your lower navel.
Go for the microdermals instead smile

What Trish said ^.

I don't think a surface piercing is a good idea for a first piercing. They are complex and hard to heal, they have a very high rejection rate. And as for the length of bar you want... you'll need to look around at piercing shops. Find one that is HIGHLY respectable and has the correct bars to do the piercing right.

I don't think this is a good idea. It takes a careful aftercare regime to heal a surface piercing, and you need to make sure you can heal a regular piercing (like ear lobe or lip), okay before trying anything more complex.

And as for the "on a guy comment" it's your body, ultimately you should to do what you want with it.

Ive been thinking that such an intense piercing amy not be best for the first time, but im never on to half ass things. Im more than willing to try really hard to maintain it and keep it stable. Meeting with a piercer on the weekend, will express my concerns to him and see what his opinions are.

Thanks for your input Kat

Well so long as you're commited and know what to expect I don't see why not smile

I'd look up on what rejection looks like, I'll get a link for you:
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Rejection

Then if you click on the link for "surface piercing rejection" in the See Also section there is an excellent animated icon thingy which shows how 2 nape piercings went from migrating to rejected.

I think you should look up Microdermals personally, much better chance of healing, less problematic, and you can get them the perfect distance apart, a lot less hassle smile

I have my lower navel pierced. its one of my favorite piercings. if you decide to get it keep it clean! and be careful of your pants. if they rub against the piercing there is a better chance of getting an infection or rejection.
