I previously posted with concerns about getting my nipples pierced. I'm a navy pilot, which involves wearing a survival vest and a harness. Lots of rubbing and sweating.

However, I'm now going to be out of the cockpit for the next 6-9 months. I was wondering if that would give me enough healing time for nipple piercings (probably barbells) to not bother me while flying. I'm concerned with the health of the piercings for one, but more importantly I don't need something distracting me while I'm trying to fly.

Any new input?

I believe nipples can take up to a year or more to heal. If you think you can get them healed up in 6-9 months, then go for it. Worse comes to worse you will just have to take 'em out. No biggie.

My nipple piercings were healed in four months. The problem is that when driving with just a t- shirt on the shoulder belt can raise havoc by sliding across the barbell and giving it a firm tug. With all the things that are going to be hanging off you, forget that piercing.

It took my nipples a full 9 months to heal. I'd say you could do it in that time frame if everything goes perfect; however, won't you still have the same irritation as before when you get back into the pilot seat? I mean constant rubbing and stuff will cause you lots of discomfort and prolly piss off the piercings. I'd find a different piercing to get until you won't be flying anymore.

My nipple piercings are 1.5 years old and still healing, just so you can hear a story from the other end of the healing spectrum.

If you get back to the cockpit and the nipples are bothering you, you could also try those fancy tegaderm bandages over them when they might get beat around, and then if that doesn't work, take them out.

i really don't have any input on your question, so i'm actually no help at all. but, the fact that you are a pilot in the navy makes me jealous. that would be amazing.
