I had my navel done 5 years ago and it migrated about 4 mm to my right so it never healed and I had to take it out less than a year later.
I went to a new piercer and he looked at the scar and said that I was pierced too deep with the wrong type of jewelry.
Is it a good idea to repierce it through the scar tissue (ouch??) or might it be better to do an inverse navel instead?

I had my eyebrow repierced through the scar tissue, and it didn't really hurt any more than usual. That might be just me though, and it might be different in the navel. What did your piercer say about it?

Yes, it does hurt a lot more to pierce through scar tissue. However it is very doable.

I suggest that if you want to get it done again, you buy some vitamin E oil (28 000 to 30 000 IU) and massage the scar tissue with it as often as possible for at least 3-6 months. Remember that it can take a long time to break down scar tissue and even then it will never completely go away.

If you can wait a while before getting it repierced, I strongly suggest this method.

Good luck!

That is crazy! That's the exact same thing that happened to me with my navel! eek I was 15 when that happened, I'm 23 and I just got my navel re-pierced through scar tissue on Saturday - I didn't find that it hurt anymore than getting it done the first time (and that didn't hurt for me either). But everyone reacts to pain differently.
So far so good for mine - I say go for it. laugh

i had my nipple repierced thru scar tissue... it looks oval now cuz the scar tissue made my nipple a slightly oval shape... kinda wierd lookin at first glance....

but it didnt hurt much more... and the piercer said the scar tissue can help prevent it from migrating again...

I had my nipples pierced through scar tissue (due to a tear) so my nipples are kind of an odd shape now too but you have to look kind of close. Anyhow, it hurt slightly more to me to have them done this time than the first time but the experience I think was better over all.

It's not the kind of pain that is the end of the world. So honestly if you want to get it done do it.

hey thanks for all the advice!

I heard re-doing it through the scar tissue hurts like a b**ch, much worse than the first time around.
It wasn't that bad to me the first time, the healing was what sucked because I wasn't given adequate after care instructions so I didn't care for it properly and it hurt all the time and just didn't work out. With my new piercing (nostril) I know what to do and what works for me to get it healed well.
I have a little ways to go before I can get it redone because of some stuff so maybe I will seriously take to the vitamin E, but if the scar tissue can help it from migrating again, maybe that will be better than trying to get rid of it...

Pain is a subjective thing. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so you could hit me with a car and I probably wouldn't complain much.

Anyhow I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just realize that it might smart for a second just like the first time you did it and that's it.

That's funny bandit, I probably wouldn't complain much either, I have a high tolerance too. If it's pretty much the same as the first time then I doubt the pain will bother me, with my new piercer it will probably hurt less, the first guy was a butcher...
I just wanted to know if anyone had any experiences with it.
Now I just have to work on the timing to go get it done, it wouldn't be a good idea just right now.

I had my right nipple repierced through scar tissue and the only reason it hurt more than the first time was because I got it pierced at a 12ga instead of a 14ga. It shouldnt be a big deal, but if the scar tissue is bad enough that it makes your navel look different, then I would try the vitamin E massages.
