Okay, so I was driving through Philly today and decided to stop in at Infinite (I could not resist). I spoke to the counter lady about getting my nostril pierced with a quartz retainer. Her response was no, telling me I had to wait til my nostril was fully healed before changing it out into the retainer. She also said that the glass is way too fragile for long term wear and it should not be kept in for longer than 8 hours at a time. Now I know dollparts has gotten her's pierced with a retainer and numerous other tribers where quartz in their piercings for an extended period of time, so im confused.

I was really disappointed I had to leave without a piercing, so if any of you tribers were pierced with a retainer or wear a retainer now, can you please offer me any advice or experiences with them.

I agree with the fact that it is fragile but it also IS safe to wear in a fresh piercing for long term use. As long as you're careful not to bump your nostril all the time you should be fine. I wear 2 quartz retainers in my nostrils 24/7 and so far it's doing alright.

I was pierced with a steel retainer, and I thought it was awesome- you totally couldn't see it.

I think it's bogus to say that you can't wear them for extended periods, and I do know that you can wear them in a healed piercing.

I do know that they will pierce with a steel retainer or circular barbell, cause I was with PDBsg when he got his septum done at Infinite.

Why don't you get pierced with a bioplast nose retainer? Bioplast is super safe for new piercings, and it will also keep it more hidden

SA - I didn't have mine done with a retainer, but I changed it to a quartz retainer last year and left it in day and night for several months. I really don't see what the big issue is, unless they want you to have jewelry instead because then they could charge more?

I had both nostrils started off with GWS retainers. I had to. I'm not allowed to have facial piercings at work. I've had them in my nose for close to three months now. 8 hours at a time? So you might get hit in the face only during 8 hours a day?? Something's not quite right with that.

Haha yeah, there's the 8 hour window where noones allowed to throw things at your face, didn't you know? :p

I noticed this too, and didn't have the heart to correct her. She probably read this and was thinking too fast and was surrounded by that moving mess...

OR...

Maybe Phal's actually a robot made of stainless steel, and when they pierced her robot nostril with a fancy laser needle or something and put a steel retainer in, you couldn't see it at all!
