Eyebrow piercing |

I really want to get my eyebrow pierced, but I play competitive basketball. I read your site about the healing and after care stuff, but I'm still not really sure about something.
The site said to use a retainer, so not to close the hole. So hypathetically, if I had to take the hoop out on average 3 times a week, do I put the reatainer in, or should I not be getting one in the first place?
