Sea Salt Soaks: The Key to Happy Healing
For being such a crucial component of piercing aftercare, I cannot believe that there hasn’t already been a stickied thread regarding sea salt soaks.
Sea salt soaks (SSS) are arguably the most important and most effective measure you can take during the healing process to insure trouble-free healing. There are several factors at play when one tries to understand why we recommend SSS so much. But first, I’d like to outline the process itself.

Have you "come across some conflicting information" about aftercare, as one poster recently said? Does this website say one thing, your piercer say another, and five of your friends all say different things? Are you dazed and confused?
Don't feel bad--pretty much everyone has to mine this rushing stream for gold.
Unfortunately, there's also a lot of just plain wrong info and bad advice, as well as a confusing array of choices for your aftercare.
There are several reasons why there's a huge amount of conflicting information out there:
This is being stickied again. I am just copying it from the old forums, (John Lopez had started this) It really turned into a great discussion thread.
BEFORE you get pierced, make sure you understand aftercare for your piercing. Make sure you KNOW what jewelry will be used and how long it must be in before you can safely change it. How long will it take to heal? Make sure the piercer is nice and friendly...able to answer your questions, etc.

Hey guys, today is day 3 with my tongue pierced. Today when I woke up, there is a small blister on the bottom of my mouth where the bottom ball rests. Im pretty sure it was caused by the unusual friction in that area (which is the most uncomfortable part of this piercing by far) But im not sure how to heal it properly as the ball is going to continue to rub on it! Also, my throats a bit sore as well today, could it be due to the swelling of my tongue? Any answers would be appreciated!

When I was updating pic of my tragus today I noticed that under the ball there is this....

I think it could just be dried blood or even dried lymph which isn't moving when I do my SSS. Does it look normal??
From the front my tragus looks really good

PS ignore the dried out top lobe. It doesn't seem to like the SSS at the moment.
Hi all!
First off, after hours of research I could not find an answer to my unique situation; but still I apologize for the new thread.
With my new tragus there hasn't been any crusties present...yet. It isn't even a week old yet.
What I am interested about is the importance of removing the crusties? Do you HAVE to do it?
I think they are beginning to form but it hard to see. In photos i've taken I can't tell if its crusties, a shadow or maybe just redness from where it is pierced.
hi all!
i got my lip pierced abot 10 days ago, and its been going great, i havea avoided alcohol, been cleaning, not touching without washing hands, etc etc
yesterday i noticed redness, and tonight when i was cleaning it -pus! Eww!
what has gone wrong, what can i do?
I thought i had been meticulous..
How do u know when your nipples r healed I just got them done yesterday but I just wanna know
So i was elsewhere on the net doing research about vch's and I came across a piercing experience in which a girl said she used her own urine as part of her healing/cleaning regimine(sp?). Whenever she had to pee she would go in a paper cup that she carried around then poor it over the piercing. Her rationale was that urine was sterile and it helped healing, but I've never heard of this. Does this sound ok to everyone? I think it sounds weird and a little unsanitary. Thoughts?
