Oh man, this past December of 2002 I decided that I wanted to be pierced, so I decided to start off with something that was a little less painful than a libret (which i've wanted for years!) and chose a navel piercing. Me and two of my closest friends decided to go to Southern Boys in Baytown, Texas. I had extreme mixed emotions over this, even though I have both ears stretched to a "0" I was still scared.....maybe not enough though. To make a long story short. The previous year my fiance attempted to pierce my belly button for me...which failed after 45 minutes of trying. Therefore, I had scar-tissue built up where the piercing was supposed to be. Instead of just forgetting about it, I thought to myself...well what the hell? just do it anyways. So I did. And it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. It literally took him over 5 minutes just to the needle through. The he spent the whole time lecturing me about how tough my skin was. All I kept thinking was, no man I have one word for you...SCAR TISSUE!! So needless to say, It hurt... The pain was not a familiar pain, it's one of those very unusual pains. My advice to you is..#1 Never try to pierce your navel yourself and then chicken out#2 Never think about getting your navel pierced if there is nearly an inch of scar tissue built up in the place the needle needs to enter. #3 Maybe I'm the only one who has ever done this but, NEVER EVER get your navel ring caught on anything the same day you got it pierced.
