So after watching WWE Monday Night Raw because of my boyfriend, I started to get interested in it myself. There was one Diva on Raw named Ashley Massaro that I thought was totally badass, so I went on WWE’s website and looked up some pics of her. After a couple of pics I noticed a sparkle sitting right above the top lip on the left side of her mouth. After staring at it for a couple minutes, I realized it was a piercing- a monroe piercing. To make a long story short, I fell in love with it. Before this I didn’t care for facial piercings much, but this piercing was so cute and feminine that I became more and more attracted to it. So I decided I wanted one. After literally months and months of research on this piercing and suddenly seeing it on dozens of people, I finally went to Philly to get it done. My research had led me to two shops in Philly- Warrior and Infinite. We went down to South Street and I planned to check out both shops first before I decided but it just kind of happened that I went to Warrior first and was so impulsive to get it that I just got it done there. Literally the entire process took maybe 10 minutes at the most. I signed all the paperwork, showed him my ID, and picked out my jewelry- a 14 gauge surgical steel labret with a CZ gem at the end. I hopped in the chair and watched my piercer John wash his hands and put on gloves. He got the jewelry, the clamps, and the needle out which were all individually medically packaged. While he was doing this he had me rinse my mouth with antibacterial mouthwash for 30 seconds. He asked which side I wanted it on, marked the spot with a Sharpie and brought the needle to my face. I was not nearly as nervous as I thought I would be, probably because I had watched dozens of Youtube videos of people getting their monroe done so I pretty much new the rundown of the process. I closed my eyes because I didn’t think I could stomach the sight of the needle going through my lip. He told me to breathe in and breath out- pinch, and it was in. It didn’t even hurt, it felt like the one second sensation of pricking yourself with a needle while sewing. He put the jewelry in and screwed on the ball ad had me rinse my mouth one more time. Then I was done. It was so quick and easy and I’m so happy with it. However, some of the aftercare advice he gave me wrong so I went to Infinite to double check and they set me straight and sent me home with some products to help with the healing process which should take about 4 weeks. The first day it didn’t swell at all, didn’t bleed and was only slightly sore if I smiled. Its certainly gonna take some getting used to with the talking and everything but other than that its awesome. I got home and washed it and went to sleep. I have decided to keep a day by day journal of the healing process just for my future personal reference and in case someone else who wants to get pierced asks me. If anyone needs to know where to get pierced, Warrior is good and clean, but I would probably go to Infinite because they know their aftercare stuff a little better. Its where I’ll be going if I ever get another piercing.
