Ok so i got my tongue pierced 3 days ago,and i am kind of worried about it's placement. I don't know if it's too far back or at too strong of an angle. Can someone help me out? It's making a huge crater in my tongue from where it rests. I heard some people say it's just the swelling and it may go away. I also have this white bump in front of the top hole. I'm not too worried about that cuz i heard that will also go away. I'm just more worried about it's placement. Someone told me its just swollen and it will look better once the swelling goes down, but it's just seems far back. It also ripped a bit cuz i was sucking on some ice and wanted to move it and i bit down on the ball, and also when i brush my tongue it feels like it pulls on the hole. Should i wait till it's healed and re-pierce it...or do you think it's ok as is? Here's a pic to show you the placement. If it doesn't work let me know. Thanks in advance!

I say give it a few days and let the swelling go down before you make any decisions. Swelling can most definitely make the placement of the piercing look off.

I agree it needs more time, but looks fine from what I can see. The crater is completely normal, some people's go away, some don't. I've had my tongue piercing for 2 yrs and still have a visible crater and it doesn't do anything, so I don't worry about it. The white bump sounds like a bit of scar tissue that may have been caused from the recent trauma, in which case it should disappear when the swelling recedes and you get a shorter bar. Just be patient with deciding on the placement, good luck!

Looks fine to me also. Give it a bit to calm down with the swelling. A lot of tongue piercings are pierced at angles due to the vein in your tongue. Once you get a shorter barbell in there the crater should go away, mine did. But some peoples don't. It will become less visible at least though.

That's fine, don't

That's fine, don't stress!!!! Mine is on a big angle because my tongue is short and I don't have a super length of tongue.. if my piercer didn't do it on an angle, the top ball would be too far forward and would touch my teeth!! I love how my top ball is a lil further back.

It's quite swollen (normal) and you will be amazed how different it will look in a few weeks when it goes back to normal.

My tongue piercing was my MOST scary piercing before having it done, like my anxiety beforehand was BAD. Even worse than my nipples. For some reason it seemed so full on. But it healed like a breeze and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

Crater is normal, some other weird things I noticed during the healing which fine was my whole tongue was white for over a week, it was gross, especially the back half of my tongue. So I didn't show anyone the piercing in the first week cos my tongue was white and gross lol. Also I had a crater, and for up to 2 months it felt like local swelling around the actual top piercing hole beneath the skin, but my friend put me at ease because she had this with hers too. You may also notice the lymph nodes under your bottom jaw/chin get a bit sore and bigger, normal also!

I'm sure by now your tongue

Posted on October 4, 2008, 5:22 pm

I'm sure by now your tongue is all better, but i had to tell you i was glad to see i'm not the only one worried about placement! looking at the pic of your tongue was like looking at my own! i also have a short tongue and the first time i had it done it was touching teeth and preventing me to speak normal, so i had it redone after it healed up. i too get a crater on my tongue from the ball, but only when i were the 5/8" bar. I have ordered slightly longer sized, in between the 3/4 length i was pierced with and that seems to help..i only wear the 5/8 whe i'll be really using my tongue Eye-wink hope all is well, and thanks for posting the pic! uBiggrin
