Posted on July 19, 2008, 4:34 amyou usually go to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth. I need to have mine removed but I never have the time.
Grogginess goes away after a few minutes. Everyone goes through it. Have you ever been put under before?

I am going to get it done by
Posted on July 19, 2008, 5:07 amI am going to get it done by an oral surgeon on the 27th of aug but in a hospital and i am scared. I am not normally afraid of medical things cos I normally just think they are professionals, they know what they are doing and i just want to get it over with but I have not gone to hospital before or ever been put under! although i have never really had to get anything besides immunisations..lol. When the dentist reccomended having them pulled I asked him if he would just do it then but he wouldnt because 2 of them are impacted. The oral surgeon seemed really good but i am not keen on on medicines or operations and she said i will need to stay at the hospital for 4 or 5 hours after i wake up so that made me think i will be gorggy and out of it for ages!

I had 2 wisdom teeth removed
Posted on July 19, 2008, 6:11 amI had 2 wisdom teeth removed in hospital. I was knocked out and was out for a few hours. I have to say, my experience was not good, but that was probably partly my fault. I was told I'd have my op in the morning and thatt if I was concious and fulfilled a few criteria I would be allowed home in the evening. I did not want to stay in hospital overnight, so I was determined to do whatever I needed to, to meet those criteria (which was to be awake and aware, go to the toilet for a pee and to have eaten something). So when I woke up in the recovery room I forced myself to stay awake, later in the afternoon I did make it to a toilet for a pee, but the worst bit was around 5pm I said I wanted something to eat. This was a BIG mistake as all they had available was a roast beef sandwich, where the beef was a bit chewy and the bread a bit dry. So it was AGONY to eat that with a mouth full of stitches. However I did get through it and I was allowed to go home. Once at home though I went straight to bed and slept for a LOOOOOOOONG time, lol.

Had mine cut out (they were
Posted on July 19, 2008, 6:54 amHad mine cut out (they were all impacted) years ago. One shattered while they were trying to remove it so it had to be taken out in pieces. But it really wasn't that bad at all. I got it done on Friday and was back at work on Monday. It must not have been too bad, I don't remember any severe pain afterwards. The worst part (that I remember) was the stitches. I kept playing with them. Really don't think you're supposed to do that.

6 teeth, little to no pain.
Posted on July 19, 2008, 8:28 am6 teeth, little to no pain. never even took painkillers. and don't eat 'hard' stuff. go with yogurt, jello, bananas, etc... do salt water rinses (it feels soooooooooo good
) and get plenty of fluids and rest. also ibuprofen will be your friend for swelling.

My sister had one impacted
Posted on July 19, 2008, 8:49 amMy sister had one impacted wisdom tooth out. I was 10 (she was 17), but can barely remember it and my sister is a huge drama-queen, so it really couldn't have been that bad!

Yours must be worse than you
Posted on July 19, 2008, 9:25 amYours must be worse than you make it sound or they are being dramatic.
I flat out refused to be put under. I did not see the need. I also fear being knocked out over something as petty as teeth pulling. Mine were partially impacted and I was 23 so the roots were almost intertwined with my nerves. I had 2 shots of novacaine and my surgeon rubbed it in so it really did the job of numbing. I NEVER get numb that easily with my regular dentist. The whole thing was fine except the assistant put the spit sucker in my throat and I choked on it so I punched her in the gut...hard. She said sorry. Anywho - took 45 min from start to finish and I sat in "recovery" for a half hour with my ice packs on my face.
I left work a little early on a Friday and was back in on Monday. A little swelling and minor bruising on one side hidden by hair and makeup.
I can show ya a funny pic from the day I had it done.
Piece of advice - get GOOD painkillers for afterwards. Take the meds as soon as you are able to so they kick in before the numbness wears off. I only got lousy tyenol with codeine and it may as well have been regular tylenol because it did not help at all. I ate them like candy. Make sure you have your script filled before you leave to go home.
For food I had broth, mashed potatoes, jello, pudding, ice cream, applesauce, smoothies and the like for several days. It wasn't about the pain after day 3 or so, but I was scared to get food in the hole. Lol.
PM me if you wanna talk about it.

I had mine out almost two
Posted on July 19, 2008, 10:26 amI had mine out almost two years ago. Just the bottom teeth, since the top have never come in and the oral surgeon didn't see a need to dig around up there for teeth that may never come in. I was awake the whole time, but I was allowed to have a CD or mp3 player, so I just listened to music and closed my eyes during the procedure. The pain wasn't bad. I can't remember if I was given a prescription for anything (I assume so), but I took Aleve for a few days and was fine. The stitches were the worst part; they were a little tight and made it uncomfortable to eat or open my mouth too much.
Try to relax and rest as much as you can. Oh, and Bloo's suggestion of sea salt rinses is a good one...my oral surgeon even recommend I do them!

I had mine out over a year
Posted on July 19, 2008, 11:36 amI had mine out over a year ago. They were impacted, and a dentist at the local clinic said they would be fine to remove in a chair. Unfortunalt my wisdoom teeth were very brittle and, it took them anhhour and a half just to do half a tooth. By this point in time they had decded to give up and they ooked me into surgery a week later. There was no waiting time for me since they had monumentally screwed up
I was happy about that though cause, I spent an hour and a half in the chair freaking scared and havin surgery to take all 4 out was the best decsion ever.

I'm 22 and no wisdom teeth
Posted on July 19, 2008, 9:10 pmI'm 22 and no wisdom teeth have emerged so far. I'm really hoping that I just wont get them.
BK, you and I are polar opposites. I would HAVE to be put under to have any oral surgery done. There's just something about pulling teeth that I cannot STAND. Even when I worked at the vet's office and watched them extract teeth, just the SOUND of it gave me chills.
I've had surgery before, and it was a piece of cake. I didn't have any problems with the anesthesia, and I think I was out of the hospital within 6 hours or so of going in. Honestly, the worst part of the visit was the anesthesiologist trying to find my vein for my IV catheter (the nurse tried 5-6 times before my mom demanded someone else try, haha).

Posted on July 19, 2008, 9:31 pmI am glad that I had a dentist that knerw his stuff when I was a kid. He said that my mouth did not have the room for a full set of teeth so he extracted the first set of molars and said that as the others would fill the space and give enough room for the wisdom teeth. The last time that I had a cleaning, Debbie the Digger noticed that I did not have my wisdom teeth. I told her what had been done as a kid and that I do have wisdom teeth.

I had mine out when I was
Posted on July 19, 2008, 9:44 pmI had mine out when I was 18. They put me out. I'm like primal, I would not have been able to be awake for it. I've got a big time phobia of anything going wrong with my teeth. (I knocked a tooth out when I was little, it caused a lot of prolems and I've had reccuring nightmares ever since. I would get put out to have a filling done if it were an option)
Mine were impacted. I rememer little of the experience, just checking in, the laughing gas, waking up in the recovery room where I was crying like a baby for no reason, I rememer thinking wtf am I crying for? Nothing's wrong right now! but I heard the nurse tell my mom it was the anestesia. Then I rememer like 10 sec of the ride home. Recovery was cake. I had good drugs

I don't think I had a problem coming out of anesthesia...

My dad suddenly woke up from
Posted on July 20, 2008, 5:10 amMy dad suddenly woke up from a nap and asked if he had to drive my brother somewhere, and he had moved out like a year before!
I was put under for an apendectomy when I was 7. They told me just close my eyes and go to sleep and BOOM! I was out. When I woke up, the room got real silly everytime I opened my eyes but honestly that went away after a minute.
Are you worried about the uncertainty of waking back up? That they'll molest you while ur asleep?

my dentist hates removing
Posted on July 20, 2008, 12:57 pmmy dentist hates removing them, apparently if you dont need them removed you shouldnt get them out cus removing them can cause gaps in your teeth.
My flatmate had hers out. Shed never had any anesthetic or novocaine before. She was quite hillariously stoned when she came out. the nurse was telling me what to keep her away from in the flat and she was sitting prodding her cheek and giggling lol

Posted on July 21, 2008, 6:39 amI really need to see a dentist about getting mine removed, or at least seeing if everything is coming in alright. The last few days that area has been extremely sore to the point where I haven't ate as much as usual because it hurts so much.
My only problem is that I
ing hate dentists. I hate everything about them (except for having prettier teeth afterwards). I don't even know of any dentists around here who aren't assholes, because I know they'll yell at me because of all my chipped teeth and gum recession.

Yep, I need to see a dentist
Posted on July 21, 2008, 9:55 amYep, I need to see a dentist about mine too. On the plane on the way back from holiday one of mine started to really hurt, then the gum came off of the top and it's just flapping around now, attached to my cheek. Been like, nearly 2 weeks. It's getting loads better, but I still have to eat differently and I'm not eating as much. Can't see a tooth there though :S

I have to get mine out this
Posted on July 21, 2008, 12:14 pmI have to get mine out this fall
. Mine came up really weird so that only half of the tooth came up and the other half is still covered by gum (if that makes sense). At least I've found a piercing friendly dentist though and I'm allowed to keep my lip ring in during the procedure.

i had mine out last august
Posted on July 23, 2008, 4:05 pmi had mine out last august and it was so easy for me.
i was knocked out, the thought of being awake and seeing & hearing all that stuff icked me out really bad.
i slept after i got home & had grilled cheese dipped in beef broth (it's stupidly good & pretty much dissolved by the time it gets to your mouth) for dinner that night. i could eat solid food by the next day but didnt prefer to.
i didnt even use all of my prescription. i used 13 vicodin in like 4 days & didnt need it after that.

I saw the dentist to get my
Posted on July 24, 2008, 12:30 pmI saw the dentist to get my wisdom teeth removed. They took an xray and said i had four- one on each side top and bottom -and they were growing in straight and I didn't have to get them removed at all, but if I wanted to I could. So far the top left tooth cut itself all the way thru, after a long period of being pointy edges covered by gums. It was pretty sharp coming in all the way, it cut the sides of my mouth for a few days. My bottom left tooth is beginning to split the gum over it, altho my friend says her bottom teeth grew in fully along time ago and they recede back into her gums periodically and it hurts so shes getting them removed... iv never heard of that before and im not looking forward to finding out if that will happen to me or not. In any case, I might still have to go back as my top right is nowhere to be found, what a waste to get them all removed now...
my dentist did make me take out all my ear piercings, my nose ring and new tongue piercing at the time out. I should have planned it better I only had the tongue pierced for a week or so. It took forever to get it out, as it was on really tight. But the dental assistant lady was real nice and chatted me up on how much she loves janis joplin and hendrix and crazy retro music and actually told me how cool I was the whole time, lol. Nice place.

Posted on August 29, 2008, 6:06 amOoh, hope it gets better soon. Think I'll end up needing mine out once I get myself down to the dentist. Still not looking very good. I've had 4 adult teeth out coz my mouth was overcrowded and then I got braces. Even that was very pleasant, so I can't imagine that getting wisdom teeth out would be

I do not know why they call
Posted on August 29, 2008, 11:14 amI do not know why they call them wisdom teeth as they are probably the dumbest thing that is in your mouth as most people do not have room for them and they become problem children.

Posted on August 29, 2008, 11:09 pmyeah i agree wisdom teeth are the most unwise thing i ever heard of! it is 3 days later now and it still sucks balls, the worst thing is waking up swallowing blood every morning
when i went under, my mum went through my handbag and found out that i took the emergency pill so things are just going smashing!!
