geez, you really are. i
Posted on September 22, 2008, 11:00 amgeez, you really are.
i don't know what the actual definition of this is, but it's one of my favorite desserts.
I get some sugar and bourbon (preferrably maker's mark, or butter instead of bourbon but its just not as much fun) and bananas and cook them effers up. get it all nice and steamy and sometimes set that shizz on fire because i'm a pyro. then when it's nice and caramelized I pour it over a few scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. god so tasty.
and creme brulee is awesome (if done right, because people can't flame it right)

That would be some variation
Posted on September 22, 2008, 11:09 amThat would be some variation on Bananas Foster, right?

Yes, that is waaay tasty, esp. when served with real vanilla bean ice cream.
Aaaaaand, what's wrong with butter AND bourbon?

Posted on September 22, 2008, 11:11 amWell, I'm trying to be a better house-girlfriend, so I'm looking for ideas for stuff to cook for PDBsg and I for dinner. So.... I've been thinking a lot about foods lately. As I mentioned in the breakfast thread, everything the guy eats has to have some permutation of pork in it to make it past his mouth. It's....challenging.

you're right, it is kinda
Posted on September 22, 2008, 11:16 amyou're right, it is kinda like bananas foster, except they have way too many ingredients and im lazy.
oh, and butter AND bourbon work too, but starting a huge kitchen fire is a little easier with both
if you want advice on being a good house-girlfriend, speak to my wife. lol, she feeds me so much stuff and i love all of it (mind you, im not a picky eater at all), but she only cooks the good unhealthy non-foofy stuff (which explains why i cant fit in any of my jeans any more).
Dinner stuff would be like:
Bangers and mash, or just some sort of dinner sausage and mashed potatoes
pork chops, pan fried, breaded and fried, shake and bake, bone-in bone-out, broiled, baked, etc etc etc. you can feed him at least 3 days a week if not more on pork chops alone.
pot stickers! pork ones!
god, the guy won't eat beef?
you could also do spaghetti with italian sausage..
or look into scotch eggs, they're amazing and have pork. lol.
so not about dessert here, but some ideas.

Oh, he eats beef, it's just more expensive. I make a good steak.
It's more or less trying to get vegetables in him. I can't tell you the tricks that I already use to sneak veggies in, cause he'll come in here, read it, and they'll no longer work.
Up until around four years ago, I only made $12,000 a year. My ex (who I was living with at the time) and I spent about $40-$60 bucks a week on groceries, so we made a lot of stews, soups and curries to save money. We almost never bought "cuts" of meat cause we couldn't afford it. I got used to making a lot of Indian style food with lentils and beans and the like, all of which are not entirely to PDBsg's tastes. He's not a fan of the black beans, avocados, hummus, or curry. So, I'm always looking for suggestions on how I can cook stuff that suits both of our tastes, without having to shell out for expensive cuts of meat too many times a week.
It's funny- we're so similar in so many ways, but have totally opposite eating habits. I like veggies cooked just past crisp, he likes them kinda mushy. I like lots of kinds of beans, he'll only eat them refried or "in" something. I'm happy with a vegetarian dinner, he seems to want meat in every meal. He likes seafood, I'm kinda aghast at most seafood selections. To give him credit, he'll try most things- we ordered middle eastern food one night, and he was very generous in allowing me to pick the restaurant, but he took one look at his meal and ran to the Wawa for a sub.
The first weekend that we met, I wanted to take him out to dinner and surprised him by announcing that we would go to a Moroccan restaurant called Marrakesh here in Philly. Knowing him better now, there's no way I would pick that kind of restaurant for him. We got curried chicken, some ground beef in a pastry thing with powdered sugar on top and couscous with carrots and raisins with mint tea. He was a good sport.

CREME BRUF**KINGLEE. God I
Posted on September 22, 2008, 1:04 pmCREME BRUF**KINGLEE.
God I could eat that
all day. A good one, of course. As long as it's velvety smooth and delicious and crispy on top and yummersy I'm happy. Pop in some fruit if you like.
Cheesecake is also excellent. Not usually a baked cheesecake though, I definitely prefer the chilled cheesecakes.
Hot chocolate fudge cake. Omg.
And sticky toffee pudding
I'm gonna stay eighteen forever
So we can stay like this forever
And we'll never miss a party
Cos we keep them going constantly

well, it all depends what cut of beef you get. I usually will pick up a tri-tip (which is pricy on its own), but then slice it into thinner steaks and freeze from there. that easily makes 3-4 meals at least for me and the missus. you can also get flank steaks, carne asada, or so on and so forth. definitely not AS cheap as pork, but quite close if you shop right. hamburger rocks as well
, or you can trick him and use ground turkey.

half and half isn't BAD. it
Posted on September 22, 2008, 1:20 pmhalf and half isn't BAD. it makes it a tad bit healthier and the textures are nearly even when mixed correctly. plus the taste of the ground beef tends to permeate the turkey.
i say you toss boca burgers at him sometime and laugh at the look on his face.

Posted on September 22, 2008, 3:21 pmIt's not always about the quality of the cut of meat, but how you prepare it. Marinating works wonders, especially when you do it for a long time. I've been known to start steaks the night before I cook them (generally on the grill)

Tiramisu: limp soggy vanilla
Posted on September 22, 2008, 10:21 pmTiramisu: limp soggy vanilla wafers. Now for the pork lover in him get a package of lard and learn to make a flakey crust with it and you can fill it with anything and it will be good. For those who have never made a crust from scratch the less that you do the better it will be. If you mix, mix, mix you will be able to resole shoes with it.
