OK, so about 3 weeks agoI walked into a tattoo studio having emailed back and forth with the artist, I handed her my pictures, told her what I wanted, she said "fine, no problem, I'll can draw something nice up for you" and made an appointment for me for 4 and a half hours on the 30th of August.

My question is- is it normal for the client (moi) to get to see the design in advance or is it usually a case of show up and see? I thought with there being 6 weeks I might get a chance to see the design a couple of weeks in advance, but then again, I've never had a tattoo done before, so what would I know?! lol

Other than that...WOOHOO, just 3 more weeks till tattoo!!!!!! uHappy

My first one, I saw the design beforehand but that's cos we'd drawn it.
My second one, she drew it up whilst I was there so obviously I saw that.
My third one (ones?) is/are tomorrow and I haven't seen the design yet, but I could've gone to see it on Fri or Sat if I had wanted to. I just couldn't be bothered to get dressed on Sat lol

i think it all just depends

i think it all just depends on how your artist works. i know with mines they do pretty much what yours has done, then they let you see the design on the day and make any alterations you need. the 4 hours probably wont be spent exclusivley doing your tattoo. i had a five hour session where an hour was spent going over the design with me.

If you have any concerns though darling, pop in and see them for a chat Sticking out tongue good luck and, as usual, tonnes of pictures or i confiscate your gingo Smiling

Where drawing is concerned, i guess anything is the norm. When i had my sleeve extended down my forearm, it was drawn on and tattood there and then. Biro'd on, took a good long hard look and said "do it." If you have any doubts you should talk to the tattooist. Its your body, so you're in charge and if they think otherwise or you're not comfortable with the service then i'd say go somehwere else.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm just a paranoid sort, I know she'll draw up something amazing for me Smiling My appointment is the last in the day so it's not like there's someone waiting to go after me either so that's cool.

Eeeeeep, can't wait!!!

If you want to see the drawing in advance, schedule an appointment to see the art.

Many artists are so booked up that drawing time is relegated to the night before the tattoo. It sounds bad, but think about it. These guys are tattooing 5 days a week for 6-10 hours per day...they also have families and school board meetings and doctor appointments and yard work, etc.

But don't worry...tattoo artists get REALLY good at listening to what you say and then designing your art. Many work better under pressure and knock out amazing line drawings very quickly.

And as stated, many schedule extra time for drawing issues.
