The opposite of stretching... & is it necessary?

Sounds like a dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

First, what's the opposite of stretching? "De-gauging"?

Second, will doing this make your piercing heal close any smoother? Does it depend on the gauge or location of the piercing?

I'm taking out the 16g in my eyebrow after 7 1/2 years. I just don't want there to be noticeable scarring. Out of curiosity, and possibly for future reference, what about 2g through 6g lobe piercings?

I'm confused as to what you are actually asking as well...

Opposite of stretching? You mean downsizing? Like taking out the jewelry and letting the hole shink?

Um...you do that to try to reduce damage after a blowout or if you want to have "normal" sized holes in your piercing again.

Never miss someone from your past - there is a reason they did not make it to your future.

I think he is asking if downsizing in steps over time (going back down from, let's say, a start of 0g and inserting 2g jewlery and leaving it for a month or so... then a 4 then a 6, etc) instead of just taking the current jewelry out and leaving the hole exposed to close on its own is better...as far as the scar that is left and if it helps close up the hole. I've wondered this myself.

Sorry, should have been "heal closed...". Smoother as in less scarring or irritation, etc.

Exactly. Good to know I'm not the only one wondering.

I think that by removing a healed 16g eyebrow piercing that when the hole closes down it will not be something that most people will notice. I do not know what will happen with 2g and 6g lobes.

well the 2 to 6 gauge lobes should be fine to just take out and let close on their own and there shouldnt be much or any scar tissue present on the surface nor in the lobe its self

Gauging is not the correct term to begin with- you are looking for the words stretching and downsizing.

Depending on the placement of the piercing, the gauge, and how long you've had it, you will notice a hole most likely.

Dunno if anyone knows the answer to this, but I'd have thought that slowly and gradually downsizing would result in less scarring as the shrinking of the hole(s) is limited by the jewellery, therefore there would be less trauma or whatever to the skin - its not gonna try to close too quickly (cf. stretch marks). Just my thought on it.

i was wondering if it would close all the way at all because my mom has had a "normal" lobe piercing since she was little and now it wont shrink so much that she cant put the jewelry back in. maybe new nerves or blood vessels grew?
plausible.

karma has come to collect and this is what you get.
