I really want to get a rook piercing but everywhere I read says its really painful! I have my lobes pierced twice, two cartilage piercings, and an industrial piering. none of those hurt much, but is this different? or am i just overthinking this? should i go for it? THANKS!

rook piercings are definitely intense - but really painful? I wouldn't say so. I've had both rooks done, and while they sting and definitely make you say "oh my god" for jsut a second, it's worth it in the end.

go for it!

My rook didn't hurt at all..

Posted on May 22, 2008, 5:11 pm

My rook didn't hurt at all.. it was like my tragus piercing - I felt more pressure than a pain while they were piercing it. No stinging or pain or anything.. it just made me say "Wow.. that's it?". My industrial hurt worse.

It's something that's different for everyone, but I'm sure it wont be that bad. Go for it Smiling

It's called STRETCHING your piercings, not gauging them.

It was more painful than my

Posted on May 22, 2008, 11:31 pm

It was more painful than my other piercings, but not really enough to make my eyes water. I'm sure I made some funny faces though. I wasn't terribly impressed with the guy who did mine, because he mentioned how much it was meant to hurt, HALF way through. But before that, it was ok. The worst thing was he was quite rough pulling my ear around, which hurt more than the actual piercing. I also got a huge crick in my neck since he took an AGE to get the bar in.

Make sure you pierced with a curved bar, I was done with a straight one and it swelled up and scarred hugely. It'll never be "normal" shaped but isn't noticable anymore.

I didn't think it hurt much

Posted on May 23, 2008, 5:18 am

I didn't think it hurt much at all really. Felt a little bit sharp for a second and I think the jewellery going in felt a bit funny, but it was fine.

Mine hurt a lot less than my industrial, for comparison.

To be honest, I heard everyone going on about how painful it was so I psyched myself up for this big huge pain and it was really not like that at all. Twas lovely.

Rook piercings arent that

Posted on May 28, 2008, 4:12 am

Rook piercings arent that bad at all. I have had mine for about 6 weeks and it was fine. Only problem with them though that you need to realise is that you cannot possibly change the jewellry by yourself. They are in to tricky an area. Another thing I have found is that they have a tendancy to be a bit picky. They get angry really easily - so you have to be prepared to really look after it.

I can change CBRS and spirals by myself: there's no hope of changing a barbell. Now it's mostly healed, it's realtively friendly, but healing was a pain.

I can't get my CBR out and I keep having better things to spend my money on than getting it changed.

Yeah, mine was healing

Posted on May 28, 2008, 5:20 pm

Yeah, mine was healing really nicely at first, now it's not being so good to me. I'm thinking I might change it to a barbell, dunno yet, depends on money really.

I can't see changing it myself being very easy though personally. Doubt I'd ever have to though, I'm not really a big jewellery-changing person. Had the same plugs in for nearly 3yrs now, been wearing a plain silver ball in my nostril piercing for about 5yrs etc. So yay, hopefully no dodgy/fiddley rook jewellery changes for me.

But fiddling with different jewellery is my favourite bit Sticking out tongue I've got (literally) bags and bags of CBRs!

Part of me would like to do

Posted on May 29, 2008, 3:58 am

Part of me would like to do that, but I dunno. The first piercing I got was my tragus and I got a pink-y CBR put in and took ages deciding what colour I wanted. I'm totally different now, I like everything to just be plain titanium. The only place I made an exception was when I changed to a bioflex bar in my tragus and I got a little clear gem on the ball for that. Think that's pretty much all I could deal with.

Yeah I go for all plain as well, I have a gem in one of my nostrils but I dunno if I want to go all gemmed or all ball'd.

I'm a mix for jewelry lol.

Posted on May 29, 2008, 3:04 pm

I'm a mix for jewelry lol. At one point in time I wanted them all to match then that shifted. There are only like 2 or 3 of my piercings that I change jewelry in --nose, septum and rook. Everything else has been what I had it changed to by a piercer and it stayed that way.. I currently have blackline cbr in my nostril, blackline barbell in my rook, septum just has sss retainer, and and labret has blue titanium flatback.. lol I also have blue ti barbell in my snug and a blue ti cbr in my outer conch orbital.. Lobes are sss barbed wire cbrs and nips are sss barbells (only because i have huge issue finding a shop that caries ti 12g barbells for the nips).. So yeah I'm a mix of color and balls lol

my rook didnt hurt at all

Posted on June 1, 2008, 10:30 pm

my rook didnt hurt at all quick in and out. but the first few weeks were a pain in my neck literally! my ear swelled pretty badly why i dunno but it did thats the first time its has ever happened to me. then i got pains going down the back of my ear and into my neck im assuming from trying to to sleep on it combined with the swelling. as it began healing all those issues went away and it does get picky from time to time but i just have to remember to leave it alone

Posted on June 2, 2008, 10:04 pm

I did my rook myself, and had no problems with it. No pain at all. Same with tragus, I didn't feel a thing. I was preparing for the worst. But there was honestly nothing to it.
I'd advise to just keep a barbell in it until it heals fully enough for a ring if that's what you want. Sleeping on it with a ring isn't always fun right after the piercing =P

Self-piercing is a REALLY bad idea and posting about it is against the forum rules. Please don't post about it in the future. Thanks. uSmile2
