points to consider:
Posted on November 25, 2008, 3:45 pmpoints to consider:
changing a cheaper barbell with external threads could do a lot of damage
some redness and swelling is normal, you know, for such a fresh piercing. Try to get the swelling down; maybe you won't have to change it
a navel barbell has to be long enough to encompass the flesh when you are standing, sitting, and lying down.
and, finally--go back. go back, young lady! to your piercer, and show her and point out that it's too long and ask for it to be changed.

Navel piercings are beasts
Posted on November 26, 2008, 1:26 amNavel piercings are beasts of things to heal. I am on my third attempt at one. My suggestion is to take some ibuprofen for the swelling, and make sure that you keep it clean.
Looking at your picture, it looks like you have had it pierced very deep. I am surprised that the barbell is so short. Like cloud said, go back to the piercer and let her see it.

Your barbell is too short
Posted on November 27, 2008, 3:09 pmYour barbell is too short and thanks to the wonders of digital photos it is pretty obvious that the finish on the jewelry is crappy.
You need to go get a nice high quality internally threaded barbell in there...if that is what you got pierced with I also suggest seeing a different (and better) piercer.
When it heals you can change to a fitted bar

grrr @ crap piercers who put crap "one size fits all" jewelry.
because the barbell does not seem to be good quality, it may very well be causing you an allergic reaction.

Yea that looks like crap
Posted on November 27, 2008, 4:30 pmYea that looks like crap jewelery.
I'm really glad I stayed away from anything jeweled when I got mine done. IIRC the jeweled ones they had at my piercer were crap too.
Now I get to go to a different guy though and he rocks.
I'd recommend going to a different piercer to have it changed. At this stage I wouldn't try doing it myself.

Posted on November 27, 2008, 5:02 pmYou can always do a camomile soak adding a camomile tea bag to your usual SSS
It won't help the jewellery issues but it should help sooth the piercing

Posted on November 27, 2008, 6:16 pmIbuprofen will help with the swelling just a little as will drinking plenty of water. That should make it more comfortable until you can see your piercer.
No, at 2 weeks it really is not recommended to change your jewelry, but if the jewelry is causing a problem, which this seems to be, you are better off. Tight jewelry can easily force rejection and that sucks a lot more than a sore navel at 2 weeks.

Trust me - get that jewelry
Posted on November 30, 2008, 2:19 amTrust me - get that jewelry out right now! As someone who has had my navel pierced three times - the only jewelry I recommend is good quality titanium jewlery. Titanium is lightweight, non allergenic and is a god send! Trust me - my third navel piercing is a breeze because I have titanium in it!

That redness is a nickel
Posted on November 30, 2008, 7:02 amThat redness is a nickel allergy. Without a doubt. The bar is also too short. I would recommend finding a more reputable piercer in your area that might be able to help you. Take care of this immediately, don't wait because it will only get worse. Navels are a
to heal, but it shouldn't look like that. I had mine done when my (now 5 year old) son was 6 months old. I had to hold him to feed him his bottle and hit that piercing many times and it never was red like that. Hope this helps, keep us updated.
