I've been stretching both of my ears my self at the same time, same methods, about a month between each time. I read plenty about it on this site and others before starting as well. I stretched again today to 8g. Though, this time I had waited 2 months as the sizes are getting bigger. Every time I stretch, my right ear stings a little and gets red and swollen for a couple of hours. Then, it's completely normal in a day or so. For the first few stretches it didn't hurt that bad. Today it hurt enough to make me worry, and the taper didn't go in as easy as previous times. My left ear always does fine, stings a tiny bit, barely noticeable, and the taper goes in easily, and doesn't get red or swell. So I must be waiting the right amount of time to stretch or my left ear would hurt too. So maybe I wasn't clean enough and got an infection but, I thought if I had an infection it would hurt all the time, not just when stretching to a new size, and would have healed by now, ie I've been stretching for several months and the right ear has always hurt. So maybe the problem was there from the beginning? I don't know. Anyway, I've went from 16g to 14g to 12g to 10 to 8g as of today. Any ideas of what could be wrong? What I could try to help? And should I go to a doctor or piercer or what? (I'd really prefer not to go to the doctor as he is, I believe, against piercings, but if it comes down to it, I may have to.) Thanks for reading this long post lol, I just wanted to try to be thorough.

My right ear is the same

Posted on October 2, 2008, 7:25 pm

My right ear is the same way. It doesn't stretch as well as my left. It has always been like that.

Don't forget - our skin is elastic in nature and one lobe to the next do not have to be the same degree of stretchy. Eye-wink

Just to let you know, 8 to 6 is a pain in the arse so you might want to hold off extra long for that one. Also, another tip that helps a lot is to stretch immediately following a super hot shower or sea salt soak when your skin is more supple.

Yea I totally have a b*tch

Yea I totally have a b*tch ear. My right is not as pliable as my left. It's common for the pliability of one ear to be different from the other.

I also have a bitch ear..

Posted on October 8, 2008, 4:31 pm

I also have a bitch ear.. lefty has been a huge pain in my ass since day one. I was hoping it was just going to be a pain for stretching, but it's also been a pain since getting it scalpelled.. it's taking a lot longer to heal than the right one.

It's called STRETCHING your piercings, not gauging them.

You may wish to wait longer

You may wish to wait longer between stretches to make sure that the lobes are nice and stretchy.

I just had that done and you are sooooo right!!! ive decided never to stretch again!!! Eye-wink

here's small piece of advice for you, kaymicrager, when i recently had my lobes stretched with plugs, my piercer told me that plugs don't put weight on your lobes, hence they don't stretch like AT ALL (i was shocked), basically i stretched my ears from a 10 to a 6 and didn't know it until he slid the taper in (OUCH!!!!)so if you're looking into going to a bigger size, you should try using snakes instead of plugs (maybe you are...i totally don't know hahahahaha)
cuz when i went from an 12 plug to a 10g snake it went right in and i did it myself haha

Ah I didn't know that,

Posted on October 16, 2008, 7:05 pm

Ah I didn't know that, that's good to know. Though, I've been using tapers the entire time, the sets were really cheap on ebay. Eye-wink As for snakes, I really don't know what they are, unless those are like the talon plugs? ^^;

no, snakes are those spiral

Posted on October 17, 2008, 12:05 am

no, snakes are those spiral things that are kinda skinny at the end and then they get fatter and fatter, so they go in real easy and they never fall out and no o-rings to deal with (mine keep falling out haha)
i don't think the taper itself really matters because since your lobes don't stay stretched, they kinda shrink down over time.....

It's still not a good idea

Posted on October 17, 2008, 12:12 pm

It's still not a good idea to sleep in them if you're using them to stretch. Especially without o-rings. If you were to roll over and pull them through you could hurt yourself.

My most recent stretch was

Posted on October 18, 2008, 8:50 am

My most recent stretch was simple. Actually, I didn't do anything. I stretched a few of my lobe holes to 8g a few months ago, and put in these heavy, two inch long forks. Well, about a week ago I got curious and took my 6g jewelry out of my septum and stuck it right through. No pain at all. The weight did all the work for me.

Posted on October 19, 2008, 6:04 pm

My left ear is the same as your right. i switched to 8g plugs today and my left ear is being a little angry. i think its because my left ear was gunned and it has more scar tissue thus making it harder to stretch.

Mods--> 8g lobes, 16g Helix

Getting a nice quality oil

Posted on October 23, 2008, 3:11 am

Getting a nice quality oil for daily massages like jojoba, emu if you don't have issues with rubbing animal products on your body..or even some vitamin e oil along with trying stretching right after showers/soaks as Badkitty has mention will probably help to loosen your lobes making stretching easier. Also waiting longer would be advisable if it's hurting really bad.
