I went and got my tongue pierced 9/1/08. The procedure went great and I went back to the studio 9/8/08 to downsize the bar because the swelling had went down considerably and the lisp was driving me nuts. I went from a 5/8 to a 1/2. It seems now that I have downsized the bottom ball is hitting my bottom teeth and is making them pretty sore at the end of the day. I went back to the shop today and talked to my piercer about my problem. He said that they could put a flat back in my tongue (like for labrets). I really didn’t want to do this because I really like having the ball on the bottom. I asked him about switching to an acrylic ball and he said not for another 1.5 weeks at least, since the acrylic balls tend to harbor bacteria and that’s the last thing you want with a fresh piercing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do in the meantime? Any other advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated too! Thanks in advance!

(Also, sorry if I didn’t post in the correct spot. I really wasn’t sure where this question really needed to be posted.)

What about a dental acrylic half dome?

I agree with badkitty - a dental acrylic half-dome might work. I wouldn't want a flatback in my tongue either.. I tried that when I had my tongue pierced and it was very difficult to take out once it started trying to embed in my tongue.

It's called STRETCHING your piercings, not gauging them.

Where would be a good place to get a dental acrylic half dome? I check here on tribe and I couldn't find them. I may try calling around to some more piercing studios to see if they have them in stock, but I'm kinda doubt that the shops around here would. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do in the mean time? The piercer told me to make a effort to not hit the ball on my bottom teeth, but it's hitting without me realizing it when I talk and eat.
