I would like to add one of
Posted on November 27, 2008, 10:04 amI would like to add one of the most neglected bits of information on HPV and HSV (herpes) as well.
Condoms are great for preventing lots of diseases, and they will reduce the chances of HPV and HSV as well, but as these two are contracted by skin to skin contact, not fluid exchange, a condom only offers so much protection. It is common to find either one on the base of the penis just below the point where the condom stops and on the outer labia. Don't go without one, but don't expect a condom to work miracles either. Just because you are wearing a bullet proof vest, doesn't mean you can't still be shot in the head.

Posted on November 27, 2008, 2:38 pmA friend of mine got HPV and now has cervical dysplasia. It is imperative that you ether know your partner beyond a shadow of a doubt or have him or her get tested. HPV may be a "symptomless" STD, but it is no joke.
Besides the fact that you could end up like the tree man, whose malady was determined to be caused by HPV, which is similar to Shope's Papilloma Virus in Rabbits.

Thanks MIP. I am discovering
Posted on December 3, 2008, 11:02 amThanks MIP. I am discovering as time marches on, more and more awareness of this disease is causing a higher level of concern and action.
On a personal level as a retired Health Educator, I am trying to pass the word as often as is appropriate in classes that I now substitute in. Most times awareness about HPV is limited to those girls that have had someone...hopefuly a parent or physician that has had a talk with them....probably about Guardasil.
I see in health texts that HIV and HSV are most often the center of emphasis. Very few texts contain an 'equal' mention about the implications of HPV...short and long term. Somewhere along the line we droped the ball with this one.
Thanks to everyone that has contributed here. With all of the (especially)young people on this site, hopefuly this will encourage everyone to seek out information and help.
Thanks again MIP. prinzalbert
