OK all -- I need help.

I been thinking about removing my nipple piercings for quite some time, specifically because I don't understand why they have not healed yet after three yeas of having them pierced. My boyfriend's have healed long ago, and I understand that female nipples have the milk glands, etc., but EVERYDAY I have to clean this (so sorry) crusty discharge, but then throughout the day, the slightest movement of them seems like a scab is ripping off...sorry to be so graphic, but I am very frustrated and do not want to take them out as I do love the way they look...but for sexual purposes, they hurt like a SOB. Have I done something wrong? Should I remove them, let them heal and get them re-pierced? Thanks to anyone with advie! Smiling

Nipple piercings,

Posted on November 5, 2008, 3:31 pm

Nipple piercings, particularly in women, tend to discharge throughout their life span. It is what they do. Mine are healed and still do that quite often. Not so much like the crusties from healing but if I am sick I get those.

Are you currently wearing rings or barbells? Most people notice a biiiiig difference by switching to titanium barbells in their nipples, it just works better. Mine were MUCH happier when I got the titanium.

I would give barbells a shot. Most people prefer them for the healing process because they move so much less and they tend to be more comfortable.

I LOVE the look of CBRs but after rejecting one and ripping another, I will happily stick to my bars.

Get a nice quality pair of barbells that are internally threaded from like anatometal or industrial strength or another one of the big companies their quality is AWESOME! Cheap definitely isn't the way to go. You might want to go to your piercer so they can do a sizing otherwise you'll pretty much just be playing a guessing game with the length of jewelry that you need..which could get quite costly after awhile.

BK is right--nipples do tend

Posted on November 5, 2008, 4:58 pm

BK is right--nipples do tend to crust up somewhat forever.

definitely try the switch to barbells--it could be a metal or jewelry finish issue; it could be a size issue.

In addition, ask yourself some questions about your general health. Do you have a chronic health condition? Do you have "female" problems? Are you doing a lot of partying? how about sleep, hydration, and nutrition? Your piercings can act up with all these things.

Lastly, if it were me, I'd try the application of some oil on there to help keep the crusties from building up and pulling and causing ouchies.

Those are the ones that I have. $20 each bar and they come to you autoclaved. Also, IS is a great manufacturer and their finish is excellent! I got mine in about 3 days.

I would definitely switch to

Posted on November 30, 2008, 7:46 pm

I would definitely switch to barbells - I had captive bead rings from the beginning, which I loved the look of but they didn't heal properly. One of them started migrating and I didn't want to have to get them removed completely, so I went to my piercer (NOT the one who originally did my nipples, the much better one who did my VCH) who could tell immediately that my rings were the wrong size and switched me out to barbells. The minute they were switched they felt better.
Barbells apparently have a lower chance of migrating, and there is less pressure on the piercing, so it might help you heal better.
Good luck

I second everything that's

Posted on November 30, 2008, 8:11 pm

I second everything that's been said, and also want to add that the barbells are going to give you much less movement and less of that terrible scab-ripping sensation too.

My nipples are 2 years old and still act a lot like yours, but they're also getting better and better. One thing that helped a lot was switching to titanium, but another thing that helped was a long distance relationship. What I mean by that is that once they weren't being played with AT ALL, they got a little happier. Now they do enjoy that from time to time, but seriously leaving them alone also helped.

If you switch to Ti and it doesn't help much, another thing that I'm thinking about trying is actually stretching from 12g up to 10g, which I think is what Cloud was talking about when she mentioned a size issue, although it's important to get the right length barbells too. The idea is that trauma to the piercing would be spread out over a greater area if you have a larger gauge piercing and that would make it sturdier and hopefully happier. I'd definitely try switching to a Ti barbell first, though, since stretching a not-yet-healed piercing also isn't quite advisable. Hopefully that will help you a lot!
