I'm taking my first plane flight in a few weeks since all the new security things went after 9/11. I have 14 ga. SS cbr's in my nipples and a 8ga SS cbr PA. Can I wear these at the airport or will metal detectors find them? Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance!

You should be fine, if you are really worried get retainers for the airport and put your normal jewelry back in once you get to your destination.

I read a post about a girl

Posted on March 27, 2008, 8:21 pm

I read a post about a girl who set off the alarm going through security. When they used a hand wand and it went off as they scanned across her chest the guy smiled and told her to pass through.

From what I've read, most metal in body piercings shouldn't set off the big metal detectors at airports.

...But then you have stories like this:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080328/ap_on_re_us/nipple_rings

Frankly, this makes me a sad girl. Sad

you won't have problems (I have more jewelry than you and have never had any), but on the off-chance you do, don't let them bully you like the lady with the nipple rings. uAngry3 they simply have no authority to discriminately make you remove your jewelry without having everybody on the flight remove their jewelry.

When I was going on holiday

Posted on April 1, 2008, 2:27 pm

When I was going on holiday my piercings never set off the alarms but I brought some spikes to replace the balls on my nipple bars which I wore for the remainer of the holiday. However when coming back I set the alarms off, and they pulled out the metal detector. Which promptly starting to bleep as it passed over my chest. Needless to say the man on security gave me a VERY amused smile.

Metal detectors usually work

Posted on April 12, 2008, 7:56 am

Metal detectors usually work on ferrous metals, although handhald wands can pick up nickel/chromium based metals since they use a combination of methods. Although steel does have iron in it, it's usually held in a compound which limits the magneticity (which is what they pick up). If you've got alot of thick jewellery, it might do it (my steel toe capped boots do), but it's unlikely to be much if they do.

I wouldn't advise trying to argue your way through on my metallurgy knowledge though!
