Hi all! I just learned something and would like to pass it on...
3 weeks ago, I decided to pierce my helix 4 times. Why? Well, wanted to prove to my girlfriend something I did not even have to prove... after 10 minute research I was told to go to Icing at the mall... ok I did.
Long story short, 2 weeks of pain and infections and I went to a professional piercer for second opinion. 3 of 4 holes were done incorrectly. Not only did they not use a needle but a gun, leaving skin derbies in my piercing, they went at a bad angle which would cause me to hurt most of my life if I would to have a rod or a stud in, and a ring simply would not go in...

So, Lala pulled out three of four piercings I had done at the mall, and will have to re-do it at a normal angle in a week. Meanwhile - I am healing. My ear felt so much better once she took the 14K gold studs out of my ear!!! She left in one - replacing it with a Sx Steel ring which allows me to clean it out real well.

Next week I am getting two holes re-done, and the third will have to wait due to scar tissue being a little bad... we hope it will go away...

Learn from my mistake and skip the mall piercing!!!

Posted on February 29, 2008, 2:39 pm

Okay, I would really encourage you to wait longer than a week to get re-pierced. Your previously botched job will not have time to properly heal in a week and you are just setting yourself up for more trouble. Kudos to you for realizing you made a bad mistake and going to have a professional piercer look at it; however, don't make another bad mistake by geting repierced way to early. Let your ear heal, and then think about getting them redone. Also, it's not a good idea to have more than 3 piercings trying to heal at one time. It takes alot from your body to work on that many things at one time. Just go slow, be patient, your piercings will be much happier in the end.

Wait about a month before getting it redone. You're going to want to make sure those other holes are closed up for good before repiercing it. Good luck.

Ok, I can do that! I am not

Posted on February 29, 2008, 6:27 pm

Ok, I can do that! I am not sure I am getting more than one at a time though... My piercer lady said she would not do one of the three holes for a while - I got a chunk of scar tissue we are trying to resolve first. So, I may just do one - will see how much pain it will be Laughing out loud
This time around i am also taking antibiotics...

I had a pretty bad infection... with green stuff. I have gotten that under control the way we treat cats and dogs... 5% betadine solution in a curved tip syringe stuck though the hole and flushed out, followed by Techni-care. Worked like a magic. After the infection went away a week ago, I was given H2Ocean stuff - like spray or something, and it has been doing real good. Two of my cartilage holes are completely healed on the skin surface - there is no mark, but I can feel it underneath the skin. Does not hurt at all anymore, except the one with scar tissue which is right in the mid ear, so it's kinda cartilage but kinda already lobe... that one still hurts...

One of the 4 holes that did stay has an 18 ga closed ring in and it is doing fine, still hurts though when i fiddle with it (in the sleep or dressing).

What are the rules of showers? After I wash my hair I make sure to wash out my ear very well, and follow it up with the ocean stuff they gave me.

What about dyeing hair???

I wouldn't dye hair and I'd rinse out the piercings (meaning soak or just let water run over them) after shampooing like you say you're doing.

When I get fresh ear piercings I try to keep chemicals like hair dye, hair spray, ect. as far away as possible.

Posted on March 4, 2008, 4:10 pm

Well, I had to pull out the Mall-done metal out, and heal my ear for a week. by the 5th day I could not even see a mark on the skin, though one does have scar tissue underneath the skin (which my piercing specialist took out today redoing the hole). I lucked out on that i guess and got my hair all done before I had my holes redone today Laughing out loud I use hanna (natural grass stuff Asian Indian culture uses for tattooing), but it still hurts like...when I get conditioner anywhere near my ear, so I may have to not even do that for a while. No hairspray for me - I am a low maintenance gal Eye-wink

I really like the stuff they gave me to use at work H2Ocean spray.

You mean Henna?

But yeah H2Ocean's one of the most decent aftercare products on the market. I'd still go with home made sea salt solution over that though. 1/8tsp of sea salt to 1cup of water is the perfect mixture.. H2Ocean won't tell anyone what the salt to water ratio is, but it's probably more than that. Home made's cheaper too. But congrats and hope healing goes well.

THANKS! I did that and it feels a lot less itchy - I did not get the white film on my ear either! It's a pain to do at work since I have to sterilize hands instead of just spray from the distance, but I like it a lot better!

No problem Smiling

Not sure what you mean by sterilize your hands.. you really can't lol. Washing them's fine, but just put the salt water in a cup or bowl, stick it in the microwave and heat it to as much as you can stand and just stick your ear in it.

oh, that way!!! K, I can do that! I was doing cotton ball, drip all over my scrubs, walk half an our with a wet spot down my shoulder and boobs... (very sexy....). Sterilize hands - well I work with blood born parasites and stuff like that, so I wash, and industrial strength-disinfect lotion them up, air dry - good to touch my ear...

Posted on March 10, 2008, 8:41 pm

alright here i go with my words of wisdom........number 1) the people at icing which is a partner or claires in canada ARE NOT certified body piercers, they have no education what so ever, how do i know this? my sister in law used to do that stuff. number 2) what would possess you to go into a pre-teen fake jewellery boutique that does not have an autoclave to get pierced? and last but not least number 3) do you not know the dangers of being pierced with a gun? flesh eating disease(i got it from meril normal with a piercing gun at 14) you can get a collapsed cartilage, massive infections, the skin can grow over the butterfly backing of the earring due to lack of space for swelling (happened to me also with the piercing i got flesh eating disease in, not fun to have the back of your ear sliced open and have puss and blood squit out on an examination table at the dermatologists office. A NOTE TO EVERYONE, ************************************ PIERCING GUNS ARE EVIL.....STAY AWAY FROM THEM*************************

Obviously the OP didn't know these things, most people don't. There's absolutely no need for that, they learned their lesson, I can't see why you felt the need to post that.

I agree with Mayhem, riot girl that was rather uncalled for. Most people who come to this site looking for assistance don't know the danges of piercing guns. The general public is not educated on that topic, thus the reason so many people go and get pierced that way. Just try to keep that in mind next time.

by no means did i mean it to

Posted on March 11, 2008, 9:15 pm

by no means did i mean it to be rude i just dont understand how icing looks like a good place to pierce your body. and im speaking to parents and children...everyone in general. personally when i started getting pierced when i was about 14 or so i researched everything thoroughly, not everyone is gunna do that and i understand that....everyone doesnt do things the same way. its just that when i get pierced the first two things i look for automatically is health and safety certification from the heath unit.......i dont know if that is a common thing in the states at a store like icing but at claires and ardenes i havent seen one yet, and in canada ontario mainly piercing is starting to be regulated more often then not. and the second thing i look for is if they have you sign a waiver....every piercing studio that i have been to has made me sign a waiver and on sunday i was actually ID'd at 19 yrs old to make sure i was legally able to sign for myself, some studios are 16 for certain piercing (non genital) some are 18 for every piercing, that place i go to is 18 overall. The point that im trying to get across overall is that no one should have to go through what i had to go through or what ambuck had to go through its not necessary. thankfully ambuck got his taken care of sooner then later but if not you can end up with over 2 years of kenalog injections, surgeries and massive infections which is not fun, not to mention a huge ugly hole in the back of your ear. personally piercing guns should be illegal because of all the risks involved in getting pierced with one, its not worth the money you pay, to be risking you rbody parts like that. it just angers me to no end that some air head who porbably doesnt know what they are doing is going to pierce something like that with a gun. i mean how hard is it really to say "im sorry ive never pierced someone like that and i dont feel comfortable doing it on you"????? im sorry if i offended anyone

Didn't sound like you were talking to everyone in general at all, sounded like it was directed straight at the OP.

And yeah, most people don't do their research... 'cause everyone and their mom literally have their ears pierced, and mostly everyone got theirs done in situations like that. Seems like the norm to them, so why would they second guess it? Not saying it's the way it should be, just the way it is.

Riot, OMG I so agree with

Posted on March 12, 2008, 8:36 pm

Riot, OMG I so agree with you!!! NOW I do know that... No I did not do my research and I paid for it! I will tell my story time after time if it will save someone from the pain I had!!! I had a stupid reason to do what I did in the 1st place - it was a huff-puff you tell me I cant do it? c me do it! I did ask a few people at work, and thats where they had it done... BUT none of them actually pointed out that they had lobes done there.... NOT cartilage... So, I kicked their butts - made them clean my ear when it was infected Eye-wink
It was stupid, and I am slightly ticked off that it is allowed. I am a strong believer in a freedom of choice for anything - so I am not really blaming them - my own damn fault, but I am still ticked off that health department does not overlook that trade... But again... petstores sell dewormer that sends cats and dogs in renal failure and nothing is done about it, who cares about little bit of flash-eating bacteria in a teen's ear Laughing out loud

My piercer was actually impressed that I did not scar as bad as she expected... probably because (a) I pulled it out when I second thought myself (b) took a really good care of the infection (c) had a round of antibiotics for a work related injury which coincided with the bad ear job - strong biotics which cleared everything and healed me up real fast. That said - we still had to move 2 holes over a bit and she had to use a bigger needle to take some of the damage out pretty much. My ear is doing great now. I am able to sleep on it after one week I think (I dont but I can in terms of pain).

Uh needles don't actually take out skin. At large gauges, some skin will catch at the bevel, but other than that, there's not like going to be a tube of your skin in the needle. That'd be a dermal punch.

I would like to get a piercing on my scrotum. I need some advice since this is a first for me.
I am not sure how to describe to the person what I want and do I do it in front of everyone there in the parlor at the time? I also need to find a good, safe reputable place in or near Austin, TX
Thanks for any help.

home made is DEFINATLY cheaper. I found a bottle of sea salt(ss alone with out other ingredients too) at the dollar general store for $1.75 a bottle and you can make ALOT of 8 oz. bottles with this bottle so would probably last you the whole healing for only $1.75.

Posted on May 2, 2008, 5:36 am

or soak up some of your sea salt water that you made with a cotton ball or gauze(I use gauze so that the I wont risk cotton sticking to my piercing) and put it on your piercing to soak it this is what my piercer told me to do and so far it has worked well with my piercing healing. This may be something you can do at work(if you work somewhere where it wouldnt look weird having a piece of gauze on your ear that is LOL) and do the bowl soaking at home.
