As long as the bar you are
Posted on May 23, 2008, 7:47 pmAs long as the bar you are getting is the right length and sterile there is no problem changing it yourself.
You might find it easier to change it in the bathroom (plug up the sink so that you don't lose bits!) or get someone else to give you a hand.

If you speak portuguese and
Posted on May 25, 2008, 3:31 amIf you speak portuguese and feel comfortable communicating with a piercer in that language, you might be able to find a shop there too if you'd rather not do it yourself. It would be hard to know to trust them or not, but I think getting a barbell changed should be a pretty easy thing to do with a new piercer too. Just make sure the jewelery is sterile (has been autoclaved and is in the little packet with the marks on it that say it went through a successful cycle), and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Don't be afraid to leave if you see something you don't like.
Or you could try doing it yourself too! Either way!

You'll need to get jewelery
Posted on May 25, 2008, 2:59 pmYou'll need to get jewelery that's already been autoclaved somewhere, or trust that your piercing is healed enough to resist potential infection-causing bacteria that might be on the jewelery and clean it with an antimicrobial soap and water, maybe mouthwash too, but make sure you rinse all that off before you put it in.

if you feel confident enough
Posted on May 25, 2008, 4:00 pmif you feel confident enough in changing it.
but i've tried changing an earring before and it turned out being a horrible idea. i suggest just waiting til you get back or maybe they'll change it early for you? unless you really really think you can, i suggest not.
