the terminology demon

Posted on October 26, 2008, 6:33 am

the terminology demon strikes again. Have no clue what a "flat" might be in terms of anatomy. I suspect it's an inner conch piercing? Also, we try not to use the term "dermal" anything, because we don't want to get piercers in trouble with the law (too close to medical terminology).

Assuming the above, yeah, you can get that part of your ear punched very easily. Flared plugs are not easy though, especially, I would think, in an area of the body with no give, like ear cartilage.

Actually it's an outer conch

Actually it's an outer conch piercing, Cloud. Modern Day Modified Elvis and Trish both have punched flats, maybe you can ask them, or maybe they'll see this and respond. Smiling

I had both my flats punched

Posted on October 26, 2008, 9:50 am

I had both my flats punched at 2 gauge. Ive had them for about a year and a half now. My pierced punced them with a 4 gauge punch and then tapered to 2 gauge. Id say the worst part was the taper lol. As far as double flared goes, my flats dont really like them, I have a hard enough time as it is getting the plugs back in after I take them out for awhile. you can watch my youtube video:

Any questions let me know!

I have my inner conch

Posted on October 26, 2008, 12:57 pm

I have my inner conch punched at a 4g. I wear a Kaos earskin in it.
It hurt to get but not as much as the next 8 months did with having an achy ear. Seriously, every day it ached. Then one day, no more achy.

Flats are outer conchs.

Flats are outer conchs. Think of the flat part of your ear. Smiling

I would suggest a single flare so that when you are ready to change it you can! Lol.

I have 00 gauge punched

Posted on October 26, 2008, 8:57 pm

I have 00 gauge punched flats and they seriously have been really easy going for me. I got them about 6 months ago when Trish (she's a member here on tribe) came down to see my piercer for some microdermals so I figured I'd meet her in person and get some pretties in my ears. It was a fun day that i'll definitely remember for a long time.

I don't know about jewelry switches since they're still healing. But I've had to remove them a few times to really give them a good cleaning. It's really not hard putting the jewelry back in. Single flares are definitely the way to go for flats or any other cartilage piercing since cartilage isn't very stretchy. After having them for a number of years it may be possible to stick double flares in but don't rush cuz it's really HURTS to stretch cartilage just ask Trish.Eye-wink

My piercer has mentioned more times than once how he's pretty impressed with how quick they are healing. To me the procedure itself wasn't too bad. It didn't really hurt me anymore than getting my old retired gunned helixes. But I did bleed so it's kind of messy. I really don't remember much in the way of extreme pain/soreness after the procedure. The pain afterwards was even less intense than the gunned helixes.

I think the hardest thing for me was adjusting to sleeping on my back but i'm used to that now. I've started sleeping on my ears again without putting much pressure on them and so far so good. As soon as they're fully healed I am going to get some kaos put in so sleeping on my ears won't be much of an issue.

Here's my dermal punch experience that I submitted to bme if you or anyone else is interested in reading it..

and I have some pictures of them during the punching and some while in the healing process..go to my myspace it's and go to the "my bod mods" and there's a few spread out in my other galleries on there

I hope I covered all of your questions..if not then you know where to find me. uBiggrin

I've had my flats punched at

Posted on October 27, 2008, 5:47 am

I've had my flats punched at 2 and stretched right away to 0 for about 9 months now. The worst part was the stretch after.. That hurt like hell!

As for the healing, I remember them being a pain for the first month, then I retardedly changed jewelry too early after a few months which pissed them off. They sucked to sleep on and still get angry sometimes when i do sleep on them. They finally healed enough to start changing the jewelry then at a concert a few weeks ago someone slammed into one of my gemmed eyelets in there which caused the jewelry to fall out and piss it off again. Thankfully I found the jewelry once the concert was done..

I currently have df silicone eyelets in them and they're kind of a bitch to get in and out but its not like I change jewelry much in those yet.. Sf eyelets are the way to go if you plan to wear anything other than silicone after its healed. Oh and silicone seems to be the best to wear at metal concerts lol.

Umm.. Any other questions feel free to ask Smiling

I'm getting my right flat

Posted on October 27, 2008, 6:34 pm

I'm getting my right flat punched when I get back from San Francisco - we are going to do it so that it's discreet - a 6ga, maybe.

The flat is the outer conch. Most piercers I know seem to refer to the area as a flat and not as the outer conch.
