It seems like a giant mess. Everyone at the debates gangs up on Stephan Harper which is fun to watch, but it's been predicted it will either be a majority conservative government or a minority. Everyone who isn't voting conservative seems all over the map. NDP is gaining speed, so is the Bloc, the Liberals still have their heads up their ass and the Green party actually managed to get a commercial televised, the first in their history.

I don't even know where to place my vote at this point. I do NOT want a majority conservative government so I have to literally be strategic about what I do here.

Fellow Canadians?

There is actually a website (my friend still has to send me the link) that tells you who is best to vote for in your riding to prevent a conservative government. I'm not sure if it would really be accurate or work though (especially if not many people know of it).

I generally vote NDP, but I am going to go to the debate for my riding this week and see what I think after that.

I think a lot of people are going to be voting NDP this time.

I'm voting Liberal just out of loyalty. I'm a card carrier and I go to the functions so I understand the platform and agree with it, I just can't handle Dion as the leader. I just hope I am making the right choice so that the Conservatives don't win a majority.

I'm voting Green.

just so everyone knows, the party you vote for gets money from each vote towards campaigning.

So even if you want to vote for one candidate but won't because you don't think they'll win, try to remember that every vote helps.

I would generally vote

Posted on October 5, 2008, 3:47 am

I would generally vote Liberal, but I think Dion would be the worst leader Canada ever had. My riding has been Liberal since its inception, except for 1984-1993 when it was PC.

That being said, I think that Harper is the best candidate compared to the other leaders. I like the Conservative ideas of stricter penalties for young offenders, and I believe that the Liberal party will hurt Canada's economy more. (They've made $80 billion in promises over the next decade compared to the Conservatives' $2 billion annually. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/story.html?id=808864)

I think this is one of those situations where we're choosing between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.

I hope that I live long

Posted on October 5, 2008, 8:51 pm

I hope that I live long enough to vote for a President that got my vote because he was the lesser of two evils. I was in Cambridge a week ago and in London Saturday. The hostess at the Boston Pizza by the mall was shocked when an old guy like me asked her what gauge her lobe jewelry was, as she probably thought that I would not know what I was looking at. The pizza that we got there was absolute crap. Chicago style is still the best.

This is a good point, but the party has to have at least 2% of the vote.

Don't forget to vote tomorrow! I'm going first thing in the morning.

You have the internet! The information is everywhere.

The debate was horrendous. The candidates were so badly behaved.

Conservative

Posted on October 14, 2008, 8:43 pm

Conservative Minority
Conservatives - 144
Liberal - 74
Bloc - 50
NDP - 38
Ind. - 2

These aren't the final numbers, but the Conservatives would need 155 for the majority. I still think that Harper would make the best PM of any of the candidates (imagine Dion as our leader!), so I'm satisfied with the results.

Some food for thought: Stephane Dion's mother was born in France, and he sought out and obtained French citizenship as a young man. Does this not mean that he's sworn allegiance to the president of France? How then, could he serve the Queen as well?

Bah.

I'm appalled by the low turnout numbers..

I also switched my vote at the last minute because of what the Green party leader said. She basically advocated voting for NDP and Liberal to get rid of the Conservatives.

I'm not going to vote for someone who isn't even supporting her own party. I emailed her and got a reply saying that she said no such thing.

Gah. uMad

Harper is the worst

Posted on October 16, 2008, 6:47 am

Harper is the worst candidate. His track record for things like the AIDS conference and Kyoto Accord speak volumes. His ideals and ideas will ruin, and has already started to ruin, our standing internationally. Afghanistan went from being something positive, peace-keeping, to an all-out war. Then when our death toll reaches the highest only behind the US and the UK parliament decides to extend the time we will occupy Afghanistan. That was based on Harpers crack-pot beliefs. According to him many things are too socialist... uh... Canada? He gives tax credits to private schools? You've got to be Bad Words kidding me. He doesn't view the French Canadians as his equals, doesn't believe their culture should be a high priority - I hope the Bloc gets a chance to rip him a new one. I would be oh-so satisfied. Hey, did you know he wanted us to join the coalition for the war in Iraq? That couldn't have anything to do with the fact he's had his face so close to Bush's ass I'm surprised his pasty face hasn't turned brown. He wants to, and has tried, to abolish same-sex marriage. Oh yeah, and he supports some privatized healthcare. Like we really need to go there. The thing to do, which the Liberals and NDP acknowledge, is to allow immigrants with medical degrees to take some kind of test or year training to be approved suitable to be doctors in Canada. Trained doctors should not be forced to work in factories while 5 million Canadians are without a family doctor.

I don't care that Dion and Layton aren't exactly ideal leaders - they're party platforms are solid and respectable. I agree Dion is an idiot but at least he's not Bush III. I will never respect or vote for what is basically the equivalent of an American Conservative. Environment? Same-sex marriage? Inappropriate tax changes? Scared of socialism? We have officially done the stupidest thing possible for the future of Canada. I'm absolutely disgusted.
