This doesn't sound "normal"
Posted on December 4, 2008, 12:56 pmThis doesn't sound "normal" to me.
Some people complain of swollen glands after tongue piercings, but not usually "sore throats". And if you actually have a blister there's something that is NOT right going on...a friction blister is absolutely NOT NORMAL.

Thanks for your reply, just
Posted on December 4, 2008, 1:21 pmThanks for your reply, just to clarify something, I have had friction blisters in the past (from my braces rubbing against the inside of my lips.) My orthodontist gave me a product with the consistency of candlewax to cover the metal and help the blisters stop. It worked but Im not sure where to get this stuff and if it would even work for the bottom ball thingie. And from the moment if got it pierced, the spot where the bottom ball rests was the most uncomfortable for me, because I have a sensitive mouth. Does anyone know where I can find that candlewax- like stuff without going to an orthodontist?

You don't want anything like
Posted on December 4, 2008, 2:36 pmYou don't want anything like wax (not sterile) on the jewelry...especially while it's healing.
My point though, was that that much friction isn't normal. In fact, it's abnormal.

if you've got a long bar in
Posted on December 4, 2008, 2:44 pmif you've got a long bar in there, which is a good practice to accommodate swelling, and you're not very swollen, there could indeed be a lot of friction causing the blister. Try not to move it around or play with it.
As for your sore throat, it could be connected to your swollen glands--that's happened to me. Or, it could be you're just getting sick.
If it were me, I'd try rinsing/gargling with warm salt water (non-iodized)

Thanks for your suggestion,
Posted on December 4, 2008, 6:44 pmThanks for your suggestion, I will try it to see if it helps at all. I called the guy who pierced it and told him what was going on, and asked if it was normal. He said its because of the long bar,and he sees it all the time. He said dont pick at it, it will only make it worse, and that the blister will go away in time, my mouth just needs to toughen up and get used to it. I hope he is right, and if my tongue falls off I will sue! LOL j/k.
