I had this microdermal done
Posted on November 15, 2008, 3:33 pmI had this microdermal done on the side of my ear (anti-tragus I think), the thing is it only stays in for so long (my case is 2 months) before it started to pop out. My piercer did it with the post to go down on my side and the bead is shown on top, but after a while it starts to pop up and eventually I had to take it out, which was a piece of cake but I was sad to see it gone. I loved it while it lasted though.

Go with the wider base
Posted on November 15, 2008, 3:51 pmGo with the wider base micro-dermals. They are a lot (and i mean a whole lot) less likely to pop out. The base gives the skin something to hold on to. Anchoring physics dictate that if the skin cannot anchor on to something, then the piercing will not stay. I have a micro dermal in my arm (one of the wider based ones) and even with a few work related snags, it still healed beautifully and is very secure in my arm.

i agree that the wider based
Posted on December 4, 2008, 9:51 ami agree that the wider based ones are better for the same reason. much sturdier and less prone to falling out due to skin being able to hold onto it better.
just my oppinion and all due respect to the girl inquiring about this, but if you are not comfortable with the amount of metal under your skin involved with the wider based microdermals, than this is probably not the mod for you.
although, if you still want to do it, there are several online retailers that sell the type of jewelry you are talking about. buy it and take it to a piercer to autoclave and use on you if you don't know of any that use that style of jewelry. most piercers want you to be totally satisfied with your piercing and, as long as the jewelry seems safe and appropriate for the task you want them to use it for, will use jewelry that they have to custom order or that you supply them with. ask around. see how your local shops feel about it.

Posted on December 4, 2008, 3:33 pmjust to let you know....the form of anchoring you speak of are quite permanent too. the only way to remove them is with a surgical scalpel

The pic in the link looks
Posted on December 4, 2008, 3:34 pmThe pic in the link looks awful - like a barbell with the end bent and it was not very shiny.
I agree with the above poster that the wider base is beneficial and if you are not into having tht much metal (which is not a whole lot) under your skin, then you may want to reconsider since the point of the jewelry is to anchor itself in.
Never miss someone from your past - there is a reason they did not make it to your future.

this stuff is still
Posted on December 4, 2008, 3:41 pmthis stuff is still evolving. but--doesn't more surface area underneath the skin translate into a more secure piercing, less likely to reject?

ekkiepants, anchors can work
Posted on December 4, 2008, 5:22 pmekkiepants, anchors can work on the hips, but the chances of healing them aren't great. In my experience, surface bars work better there.
-----------
Oh boy. That BME article about Ben's anchoring is OLD. And as far as I know, not one of those original "anchors" survive.
Ben's jewelry is basically a butchered Fishtail Labret or Nostril Screw. This is EXACTLY why companies are now making jewelry DESIGNED for anchoring.
-----------
NO, IT DOES NOT REQUIRE SCALPELS TO REMOVE ANCHORS.
-----------
It's amazing how much myth is out there regarding anchoring.

the anchors are far from
Posted on December 4, 2008, 5:53 pmthe anchors are far from permanent. a scalpel isnt nearly as big a deal as most people make them sound however it's not necessary to remove one of these anchors. if your skin heals through the hole in the base you can usually sever it by following it with a needle in a similar fashion to how it was done in the first place.
