Considering they disinfect the skin before marking, it shouldn't be a big deal.

My piercer always gives us the pens after he/she is done marking. That way you get your skin germy pen. They toss the crotch pens though.

I'm a bit obsessive about cross-contamination. Have you heard of any incidents due to a dirty marking pen? Should I not worry about this?

Just ask for a fresh pen. If they cannot produce then do not get pierced.

Most piercers i've gone to use the same marker pen thing , but for genitals the guy I went to used some ink/dye something that he marked the spot with using a toothpic looking thing....

I don't have any genital piercings, so I wouldn't know.

yes, I would insist on a new marking pen, or marking with the dye/toothpick.

It really woulnd't bother me in the slightest, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you asked for clean pen because you were worried. At the worst, you're erring on the side of caution.

I rock a toothpick all day

I'm not a big fan of marking pens. I get a little bit of gentian violet and toothpicks out every time. Or use the disposable skin marking sticks. I don't like the idea of touching a client with something thats already touched another client.

They always use a little ink stick thingy on me, always wondered what it was...and they throw it away afterward.

I went and saw the piercer Saturday to ask her about the marking pens. She uses new pens for every piercing. So that makes me feel a lot better.

I dont like inkpens. I just dont want my customer to have to guess where the pen came from. I personally use a sterilized toothpick for my marking, and dont get pierced by anyone who dosnt.

My body, my choice. I doubt very much I could get anything from a pen. The only way I could was the person before me has something on their skin.

Besides, most inks are too alkaline for bugs to be happy.

When I think of where my mouth has been a marking pen is the least of my worries.

He went and got pierced Friday. It went really well. She used the toothpick/dye for his lorum and a disposable pen for his ear. She used a toothpick/dye for my nipples. She opened up the packages in front of us to make sure that we knew everything was clean and sterile. It was really interesting to watch the piercings.
