It is important to keep new piercings clean for a few reasons. The most obvious one is to reduce the chance of infection. The second reason is to remove crusties that develop, as they may irritate the piercing or delay healing if they get dragged into the hole itself. The third is for aesthetics- a crusty ear lobe or other visible piercing just looks gross.
there are lots of hidden gems on this site!
Here's a pretty good rundown of sensible answers to common piercing questions.
This topic comes up periodically, and I’m going to address it in hopes that the mods might sticky it and save us all a lot of time.
I’ve self-pierced a few dozen times, so I’m not going to give a lecture. It might seem hypocritical of me to say I’ve self-pierced, and then argue against self-piercing. To quell those arguments, I have an advanced degree in Biomedical Sciences and have performed numerous small animal surgeries. I’ve been trained to perform surgeries, and still am reluctant to self-pierce. So, why is self-piercing such a bad idea?
this is just a reminder, and for those who might not have considered it (thank you to Minnie who brought it up):
For any woman contemplating getting genital or nipple piercings, the best time to get pierced is after your period. Try not to get pierced right before or during; you may be extra sensitive, the tissue swollen and tender. Some women may even find that they are more sensitive in other areas of the body at that time.
I just found this site and I think it's great. I have always wanted a Hafada piercing and tried to get one about 10 years ago but the lady piercer scared me off by talking about infections. I have a renewed interest in getting a Hafada and another piercing, either a Frenum or PA, the more I see about them, the more I like. I'm just trying to get the nerve to do it. One question, I'm shaved bare and I wonder if it will be difficult to shave with a piercing, especially while it is healing.
I think this is called a (double) upper helix... am I getting that right?

It seems to be a pretty basic piercing, and from what I'm reading here and various places on the web, 16 seems to be the standard gauge. I'd really like mine to be a 12 gauge, though.
So, I was wondering -
- can anyone give me some insight on whether or not that's a reasonable gauge for a cartilage piercing? Is there any reason I *shouldn't* get pierced with a 12g?
i was wondering like how long what the risks are because you guys know parents can be parents and not let you get this kinda stuff done with out looking in to it before you get it done.

I will start this with that I am NOT new to piercings, however, this is the first I would be getting this type of piercing per say. My boyfriend has been hinting at me for years how sexy he thinks me getting my nips pierced would be and I always argued that I wouldnt be able to breastfeed later in life. I have now done my research and discovered this to be a myth. I am however worried about the pain and the fact that I have TINY nips. So I supposed my question is, hyow much did it hurt and is there such a thing as nips being too small to pierce?
I know Im awesome...but Im still modest about it
I am thinking about having my frenum pierced. What size and which is better a ring or a curved barbell to start with?
